Multicultural Affairs Scholarship Applications Now Being Accepted
Applications for the Hearst Scholars Award, Multicultural Pride Scholarship and the UW Minority Scholarship for the academic year 2012-2013 are now being accepted. Please click here for more information and application materials. Applications are due to Multicultural Affairs by 5:00 on 3/1/12.
Multicultural Affairs Graduate Program
The Multicultural Affairs Graduate Program (MAGP) assists students in completing a graduate education
and awards assistantships on a competitive basis for one academic year only. The MAGP graduate
assistantship includes a tuition-and-fee waiver and a stipend for performing services (working) in the
department in which the student is pursuing a degree or in a Multicultural Affairs approved placement
for the academic year. Continuing students who wish to apply for continuing support the following year
must complete a new application. If academic progress and work performance as a graduate assistant
are unsatisfactory, Multicultural Affairs, upon consultation with the department, will rescind or modify
the award. Applications are due May 15, 2012. Please share with all who might be interested.
Applicants for the Multicultural Affairs Graduate Program (MAGP) must meet the following criteria:
Accepted or enrolled in UW graduate program
U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
Full-time enrollment (9 or more credit hours per semester) in fall and spring (no summer awards
available)
American Indian/Alaska Native; Black/African American; Hispanic/Chicano/Latino; and Asian/Pacific
Islander
Demonstrate academic potential and accomplishments
Demonstrate financial need
Full institutional funding not available at time of application
Potential to complete graduate study
Past and current minority involvement
Potential to contribute back to the minority community upon graduation

Study Abroad in Kenya. This 12 day study abroad course in Kenya will transform students'
understanding of Kenya's history, diverse languages, cultures, and the Kenyan people's struggles
for self-sufficiency and economic development. Open to UW students at any level, UW faculty
and staff, and the general public. The course title is: Images of a Continent Old and New,
Exploring African Cultures in Kenya. Course travel dates: June 9-21, 2012 (dates may vary

Graduating This Spring? If you plan on graduating this spring, please remember to notify the Office of the Registrar of your intent to graduate. In addition to obtaining the Anticipated Graduation Date form from the following link: http://www.uwyo.edu/registrar/_files/docs/AnticipatedGrad.docx , you will also be required to pay the $25.00 graduation fee to the cashier's office once your graduation date has been declared. As has been done in years past, Multicultural Affairs and International Students and Scholars will be hosting the Multicultural Graduation Celebration. Student Success Services. Student Success Services is a free UW program with the goal of helping students be successful. Some of the many services provided are: Academic (improving study skills and individual tutoring), Financial (help w/ FAFSA, scholarship searches), Personal/Social (navigating UW, and making connections). Student Health 101. Student Health 101 is an online magazine with up-to-date information students can use to improve their health, relationships, and study habits, among other things. Furthermore, each issue is customized for UW with specific information about campus events and resources, such as nutrition help at Washakie or outdoor adventure options through Half Acre. In fact, were always looking for new contributions so if you want to promote something that you fits with student health, please let us know ([email protected]). Gatekeeper Training. Gatekeepers Trainings are the first step in educating students, staff, and
faculty on the importance of suicide awareness. The goal of the training is to promote help-
seeking behaviors and reduce the stigma of seeking care for mental and behavioral health
problems. Each two hour training session will define warning signs and risks of suicide, define
protective factors against suicide, and provide resources and skills to make a referral to a
professional. The trainings are open to all interested students, staff, faculty and community
members. Suicide prevention is a priority for students, faculty and staff at the University of
Wyoming. The State of Wyoming is ranked number five for suicide deaths per capita. We know
that most people who are severely depressed or suicidal will not automatically seek out a
professional counselor. Gatekeeper training can provide a bridge to professional help and bring

Spanish Mass. The Laramie Spanish Choir invites students to a Spanish Mass every Sunday at 12:30 pm at St. Laurence O’Toole, 319 Grand Avenue, Laramie, WY. NASA Space Grant Fellowships and Research Grants
2012 WY NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Research Fellowships Applications for Undergraduate Research Fellowships are now being accepted for student*
salary/supplies of up to $5,000 for the summer and/or academic year to conduct research in any
science, math, engineering, or technology field with an advising faculty member. Deadline for
applications is Friday, February 17, 2012. For more information and application information see our

Internship, Grant, or Employment Opportunities
Job Corps Seeks Safety and Occupational Health Specialist. Participates in on-site inspections
of worksites to identify and evaluate conditions that may be hazardous to workers' safety and
health. Reviews current literature, research, or professional studies to determine methods and
techniques for safety program planning and implementation. Designs program requirements to
accommodate USDA FS priorities or emphasis and meet current recognized standards for the
program. Provides technical assistance, consultation, and guidance to personnel and
organizations on safety programs and projects. Provides guidance, motivation, technical advice,
leadership, information, and assistance on financial support. Formulates guidance and
instructions for various safety policy decisions. Provides advisory services to those entities
implementing the policy. Ensures appropriate dissemination of the guidance to ensure
consistency throughout the assigned area of responsibility. Coordinates, shares, and
disseminates safety program and/or implementation information to appropriate program
participants, project officers, etc. Provides leadership and guidance to students and advises

Children’s Hospital of Colorado Summer Psychiatry Practicum. The Summer Research
Practicum is designed to introduce young people to the discipline of research as well as the
profession of child and adolescent psychiatry by having them participate in research activities
prior to their advancing to graduate school. Its goal is to give talented undergraduate students
who have a strong interest in the mental health profession an opportunity to learn first-hand
about the substance, the spirit, and the methodology of current scientific research in the field
and to encourage them in their pursuit of advanced education. Description: The student will
rotate through and work in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The
Children’s Hospital in Denver, CO. The student will assist department psychologists/psychiatrists
with aspects of their research to include; entry of research data into databases, medical chart
abstraction, scoring of psychological assessments and measures and conducting literary
searches for researchers. The student will have presentations on some of the department’s
clinical programs such as the Neuropsychiatric Special Care Unit as well as the Medical Day
Treatment program. The student will discuss research concepts in a weekly interaction group
and will be responsible for researching and presenting one scholarly article at the end of the
practicum. The student will have tours of labs on the University campus. This will be a rich
summer program that will provide the student with a diverse overview of research within the
field of psychiatry. Work Schedule: The Summer Practicum begins May 29th and ends on August
9th. The student is expected to work 30 hours per week, this time includes assisting with
research, attending lecture, participating in lab tours and observing clinical work. The schedule
will be flexible and based on the needs of the researchers and the availability of the student.
This is an un-paid internship opportunity. Minimum Qualifications: 3rd or 4th year
undergraduate student. Recent graduates are also encouraged to apply as this is a great
preparatory experience for graduate school, Basic computer literacy, Good communications
skills, both written and oral, Passion for field of psychology or psychiatry Application Process: If

The Moore Undergraduate Research Summer Apprentice Program. The Moore Undergraduate
Research Apprentice Program (MURAP) is a paid summer internship designed to foster the
entrance of talented students from diverse backgrounds within the humanities, social sciences,
and fine arts into graduate school and faculty positions in U.S. colleges and universities. More
broadly, the program seeks to increase the presence of minorities and others who demonstrate
a commitment to eradicating racial disparities in graduate school and eventually in academic
ranks. The program serves the related goals of providing role models for all youth and
structuring campus environments so that they will be more conducive to improved racial and
ethnic relations. MURAP aims to achieve its mission by identifying and supporting students of
great promise and helping them to become scholars of the highest distinction. Each summer,
the program brings to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus a cohort of 20
undergraduates (rising juniors and seniors) from colleges and universities in the U.S. for an
