Optional Student Practice for the 2020 AP Exams To help you prepare for the 2020 AP Exams, in April 2020 you will automatically be assigned optional
practice free-response questions in AP Classroom. When you have practice questions available, you will
see a notification on your AP Classroom home page. Selecting the notification will take you to the student
practice assignments.

Accessing Student Practice Questions from the Assignment Area
Selecting the link will lead you to the Assignments tab in the Assessments area. Any current assignments
from your teacher can be found under “Your Assignments” [1]. Select “Optional Student Practice” to see your
practice questions [2]. The course unit the question covers is included in the question title [3]. Select a title
or a “Begin” button to open the practice question. If you have begun a question but saved it without finishing
it, a “Continue” button will appear [4].
On your mobile phone, select “Practice” from AP Classroom’s menu.

Answering Practice Questions
The free-response practice questions are similar to other free-response questions you take online in AP
Classroom. Type your response in the field under the question [1]. The questions may also require a file
upload or an audio recording for a response. When you are finished, select “Submit” [2].
Before you submit the practice question for grading, you will have the opportunity to review the scoring
guidelines for the question. Your teacher will use the same guidelines to grade your response. You may
review the guidelines and revise your response before submitting your final answer.

If you select “Yes, Review”, the scoring guidelines will appear under your response. The number buttons
represent the possible score you could earn on the question part. Select each number to see the guidelines
for that score. You may revise your answer, and then select “Submit” again when finished.
When your finished with a question, you will return to the “Assignments” tab. Select “Optional Student
Practice” to continue with additional questions.

Monitoring Student Practice Progress
On the Progress tab, select “Optional Student Practice” to review the status of your student practice
questions. Status will be “Submitted” [1] for questions you’ve completed but haven’t been scored by your
teacher yet. When your teacher scores your response, the status will be “Scored” [2]. If you have started a
question but haven’t completed it yet, the status will be “In Progress” [3].

Viewing Student Practice Results
After your teacher has scored your question, go to the Results tab to view your performance. The practice
questions appear in the “Optional Student Practice” tab. To see your results for a question, select its title.

Student Practice Question Results Details
On the question screen, you see your score for the question [1] and its component parts [2]. You may also
review your responses [3].
