Wow, hard to believe that half of the year has somehow gone by already! Its Winter Solstice today (shortest day of the year). I know that some of the coldest days of Winter are ahead of us, but to me its always a great psychological moment to know that the days will gradually get longer now. Im afraid Im not a Winter person! School Interhouse Athletics We hit the ground running again next Term with the Inter-house athletics scheduled for Friday of Week 2 (21 st July). This is being held so early because Quinalow District Athletics will be held in Week 4 (Wednesday for field events and Friday for track events). The shift from a Thursday to Friday for our school athletics is due to a Thursday clash with the annual St Anne s luncheon. Hopefully we get some rain before then so that we can actually mark some lines that we can see! Justin Anlezark Visit Justin and our classes braved the cold, blowy conditions on the oval on Monday morning for some great tips on Shotput and Discus techniques. Justin also spoke at length to our students on goal setting and particularly on nutrition. Did you know that to burn off a small square of chocolate, you would need to run around our oval about three times? Eating a certain brand of energy barwould require us to run to Oakey and back to burn off. Justin told us that our bodies do need some fat, but only about 30g per day. Most of what we eat in processed foods or takeaways is simply full of fat, salt, or sugar. Please take this into consideration when planning your childrens lunchboxes for school. SkooliezOur Year 3-7 students are looking forward to seeing the matinee performance of Skooliezput on by Oakey State High School at the Oakey Cultural Centre this Thursday, from 11.30 a.m. We have been offered free tickets for these classes and we have organised a bus to get there. No cost at all to our students! All that is required is for parents of students in these year levels to return the permission form forwarded last week. We will have an early lunch before going to Oakey and children will be allowed an afternoon tea break upon return to school. Theatre Restaurant I have heard rave reviews for Chase Me Comradefrom all I have spoken to who attended. Thank you all to everybody who put in so much of their own time to make this theatre restaurant the great success that it was. I will shortly place a number of photos taken from the event onto our school web- site at: www.jondaryass.eq.edu.au Have you visited our site yet? To the wonderful parents, families and community at Jondaryan State School. It is with a heavy heart that I write my final newsletter to you all this week. The six months of my posting here comes to an end on Friday of next week, and with that I will leave you back in the hands of your fearless leader once again, the much loved Miss Stansbie. I am sad to leave, mainly because I will miss being surrounded by your wonderful children each day. But I am also extremely proud of the work we have done and the hard times we have faced while I led your school, and if you will indulge me I would love to reflect on them now. When I first arrived at the school I was greeted by a group of year 4 – 6 girls who would soon be in my class. They commented on my clothing and how they liked my sense of style, and told me they couldn t wait for my arrival the next week. Within the next few days I read a series of letters the kids had written to me, introducing themselves and telling me all the things they loved about their school. I was excited and energised to begin at the school and enjoyed my first drive out in the crisp morning air, through the grain, cattle and solar farms of my commute. I began the next Monday and had a wonderful group of staff to guide me through the daily comings and goings of the school, each with their own little bits of wisdom which would eventually help me as I changed environment, town, and class type for my new adventure, as Principal of Jondaryan State School. My class and I settled together nicely and we picked up right where they left off. We would have fiery debates over language used in texts and explore patterns in numbers, we enjoyed playing sports together as a class and had some amazing discussions as we all learned together, taking pride in the work and interest in the topics. Everything had gone smoothly, and I thought about how lucky I was to be in such a wonderful school, with such a talented class of children. (I still think this now!) The next three months would prove to be the most rewarding and challenging of my career so far with an unprecedented pandemic causing us to change the way we worked, the way I led, and the way the kids learned all at once. I dont know how we would have made it through without the patience and the support of the parent community. Over those months I received countless phone calls and messages from parents with appreciation for the work being done, and with the acknowledgement that teaching is actually very hard, and how do you have the patience for this every single day?! ”. I commend you all for your commitment to your childrens education during that time, it will truly be something the kids will always remember and has changed the way teachers will work from now on. Once everything calmed down again we were overjoyed to have the children return to school, their bright and happy faces greeting us in the morning and driving away with a wave in the afternoons. The chatter and squeals of children in the playground filled our ears once again and we got to enjoy the thing teachers love the most; standing in front of a room full of little people learning and being creative, watching (metaphorical) lightbulbs appear as they grasped new concepts. The next couple of months would be a daily routine of maths, English, art, sport and playtime and became one of the happiest times of my life as a teacher. It was extremely rewarding being able to care for and educate your children, so thank you for raising them to be so wonderful. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the parents and carers of the school for welcoming me, guiding me, being open and honest with me and supporting me while I led your school. It has been the most challenging and interesting time of my career and I have made some lifelong connections in the process. I am looking forward to returning to the school for the 150 year celebration in a couple of yearstime, and welcome you all to keep in touch with me. I will always want to know where your children are and how they are going! (You can email [email protected]) Until next time, Miss Hansen.
