Three Areas of Focus for Better Home Safety “The home to everyone is to him his castle and
fortress, as well for his defense against injury
and violence, as for his repose.”
– Edward Coke, Businessman, 1552-1634
Our homes are our fortresses, the
place where we should feel safe and secure
in our most vulnerable moments. Here at
Pioneer Village we value home safety and
the safety and comfort of our residents and
staff. Three areas of focus that anyone can
use to aid in securing their safety at home:
Focus One: Reducing Internal Risks
According to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention one out of three
people aged 65 or older experience a fall
each year. Falls may happen due to external
factors, but many falls may be prevented
with focusing on identifying and preventing
internal risks such as decreased physical ca-
pabilities. Ways to decrease internal risks
include visiting the doctor for checks on
hearing and eyesight as well as regular exer-
cise to promote balance and mobility.
Focus Two: Reducing External Risks
Using preventative measures inside
the home may also help secure home safe-
ty. Ways to reduce external risks such as trip
hazards, fire-safety issues or cuts include
removing clutter and improving lighting.
Focus Three: Protecting Against Others
Finally, it is important to protect the
financial security of your home by being
diligent in protecting your information and
monitoring accounts. Ways to increase
home safety against others include being
scam savvy by not giving out personal infor-
mation over the phone, via email or by mail
and by monitoring personal financial ac-
counts.
Focusing on these three areas will aid
you in feeling secure at home. The month of
June is designated National Safety Month.
Join us in focusing on our home safety
throughout the month!
Safety Tip: Make sure your shoes are in
good repair, are put on properly and tied
to help prevent falls.

Welcome Dora!!!!!
We are pleased to announce the return of our newest team member
Dora Howard!!!
Dora started April 20, 2016 as the Assistant Execu-tive Director/Resident Care Coordinator.
Dora is an energized, highly organized and pro-fessional individual. She attended DeVry University where she received her certificate in Business Admin-istration and Project Management. She also completed her 40 hour ALF/RCF Administrator Training in March 2014. Dora has extensive training in sales, marketing, special event planning and customer service. The last eight years she has spent working with seniors from the community level including specializing in the advanced Memory Care communities.
Dora lives in the Applegate Valley with her hus-band of 10 years. They have a wonderful daughter and two grandsons, ages 5 & 7. She enjoys camping, fish-ing, hunting and watching the world unfold through the eyes of their grandsons. She loves working closely with the senior population and has extensive background in daily operations, assistant living/independent living, and memory care. Dora is on the Alzheimer’s Walk

There are so many lessons that I am grateful for. I think
what comes to mind first is that he showed me how to "Love with all I am" and how important it is to have
"fast food dates with our children and grandchildren",
those are dates that I treasure and now so does my daughter and grandsons. Thank you E.L. Howard for all
you haven given us, I Love you with all I am!
