Care and Maintenance 7

Care and MaintenanceRecommended Cleaning

WARNING: To avoid eye and skin damage, always use protective glasses and gloves. If contact occurs rinse with plenty of water. If eyes or skin becomes irritated, contact a physician. Always read the instructions for use and material safety data sheet of the disinfectant.

The STRAP EXTENSION should be inspected between each patient use and cleaned if needed.

Cleaning the Strap1. Use a cloth soaked with water to remove

excessive residues from the lift and its accessories from top to bottom.

2. Use a damp cloth with warm water mixed with a cleaning fluid and scrub the strap from top to bottom to remove any deposits.

3. Use a clean damp cloth with clear water to wipe off all spots of cleaning fluids. Then wipe clean with a dry cloth.

DisinfectionWipe the strap using a solution containing one of the compatible disinfectants in the chart found on the following page.Disinfection methods should comply with the local or national guidelines (Decontamination of Medical Devices), depending on the Healthcare Facility or country of use. If uncertain, consult local Infection Control specialist. Storage conditionsStraps should be store away from direct sunlight, stress, pressure, excessive heat or humidity. The straps should be kept away from contact with sharp objects, corrosives or other possible damaging material.

Strap InspectionIf the strap is damaged or shows signs of wear or discoloration, the acceptable load on the strap before rupture can drop rapidly and present a danger for the patient or caregiver. Arjo recommends a thorough inspection of the strap every 4 months as follows:• Completely unwind the strap.• Look for any signs of wear.

WARNING: If there is any sign of wear as indicated above or any other visual defects, the strap must be inspected by qualified personnel and changed if required. Arjo recommends changing the strap as follows, whichever comes first and depending on the model:• Woven nylon strap - two years or every 5,000

cycles• Coated strap - two years or every 5,000

cyclesBy continuing to use the lift without changing a damaged strap, the safety of the caregiver or patient is greatly compromised.
