Summary:
Kite Day A Bear and Mole Story tells the sory of a bear and a mole building a kite together on a
beautiful day. Bear wakes up and smells the beautiful air and says, “It’s Kite Day!” The bear and
the mole split responsibilities when building the kite, and then they come togeher and

flying the kite together when the day takes a turn, big black clouds come rolling in with thunder
and lighting. Then SNAP the string breaks and the kite flys away! They chased after the kite
trying to save the kite, when it lands in a tree. When bear and mole arrived to where the kite
was in the tree they realized that it was protecting a family of birds from the pelting rain.
Fine Arts Activity:
Kindergarten
TEKS:
(2) Creative expression/performance. The student expresses ideas through original
artworks, using a variety of media with appropriate skill. The student is expected to:
(A) create artworks, using a variety of colors, forms, and lines;
(B) arrange forms intuitively to create artworks; and
(C) develop manipulative skills when drawing, painting, printmaking, and
constructing artworks, using a variety of materials.
DAP: Students will dvelop fine motor skills by manipulating colors, glueing items, and
using scissors to cut paper.
Objective: The student will develop fine motor skills by using forms to create a mini kite,
and color the kite.
Materials: Glue, pre-constructed kite forms made out of popcicle sticks, pre-cut kite
shapes, string, and ribbon.
Teacher Directions: The student will build a mini kite following the step by step
instructions. Once the kite is built they will color and design their kite with colors of
their choice.
Child Directions: See Attached
Self-Evaluation: Students will be able to assess their kites by having an example of one
already made in the middle of the table.
Math Activity:
Kidergarten
TEKS:
Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process standards to
understand how to represent and compare whole numbers, the relative position
and magnitude of whole numbers, and relationships within the numeration
system.
(D) recognize instantly the quantity of a small group of objects in organized and
random arrangements;
DAP: Self-regulation and attention will be developed in this lesson. The student will be
working independently, and will have to self-regulate to see if they got the answers
correct.
Objective: Students will be able to match numbered kites with the appropriate
match.
Materials: Kite Matching folder
Teacher Directions: The student will match the numbered kite to the appropriate
kite in the folder.
Child Directions: See Attached
Self-Evaluation: Students will have a key on the back of the folder to determine if
they did them correctly.
Science Activity:
Kindergarten
TEKS:
(8) Earth and space. The student knows that there are recognizable patterns in the natural world and among objects in the sky. The student is expected to: (A) observe and describe weather changes from day to day and over seasons; (B) identify events that have repeating patterns, including seasons of the year and day and night; and (C) observe, describe, and illustrate objects in the sky such as the clouds, Moon, and stars, including the Sun.
DAP: Students will develop fine motor skills by having to poor the water into the bottle and maintain control without spilling any of the water with a funnel.
Objective: Students will be able to create a tornado in a bottle and identify different types of weather.
Materials: clear bottle with lid, Colored water, tape, funnel, and a bottle with water in it.
Teacher Directions: Teacher will demonstrate how to pour water into bottle with a funnel. Once the water is in the bottle the teacher will demonstrate how to tape the cap on the bottle. Finally the teacher will demonstrate how to create the tornado in the bottle by swirling the bottle upside down.
Child Directions: See attached
Self-Evaluation: If the bottle doesn’t leak when the students turn the bottle upside down, then the students have done it correctly.

TEKS: (3) History. The student understands the concept of chronology. The student is
expected to: o (A) place events in chronological order; and o (B) use vocabulary related to time and chronology, including before, after, next,
first, last, yesterday, today, and tomorrow. (14) Social studies skills. The student applies critical-thinking skills to organize and
use information acquired from a variety of valid sources, including electronic technology. The student is expected to: o (A) obtain information about a topic using a variety of valid oral sources such as
conversations, interviews, and music; o (B) obtain information about a topic using a variety of valid visual sources such
as pictures, symbols, electronic media, print material, and artifacts; and o (C) sequence and categorize information.
DAP: The students will develop memory skills by having to recall what happened in the book in the exact order that it happened.
Objective: Students will be able to place the events of how mole and bear built a kite in chronological order the way that the book demonstrates.
Materials: Sequencing timeline and event cards
Teacher Directions: Teacher will demonstrate how to put the event cards in the correct order on the timeline.
Child Directions: See Attached
Self-Evaluation: Students will be able to determine if they got it correctly from the book that will be placed at the activity station.
Language Arts:
Kindergarten
TEKS: Reading/Beginning Reading Skills/Print Awareness. Students understand how English
is written and printed. Students are expected to: o (B) identify upper- and lower-case letters; o (D) recognize the difference between a letter and a printed word;
(3) Reading/Beginning Reading Skills/Phonics. Students use the relationships between letters and sounds, spelling patterns, and morphological analysis to decode written English. Students are expected to: o (A) identify the common sounds that letters represent;
DAP: Students will develop language and literacy skills by being able to identify the letters of the alphabet.
Objective: Students will be able to identify upper case and lower case letters by matching them to their opposites.
Materials: Letter matching folder with letter cards.
Teacher Instructions: Teacher will demonstrate how to match the lower case letter card with the upper case letter in the folder.
Child Directions: See Attached
Self-Evaluation: Students will be able to see if they got the activity correct with the key on the back of the folder.
