What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!

What a privilege to carry everything to God in Prayer!

O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,

all because we do no carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations?

Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged;

take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?

Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?

Precious Savior, still our refuge; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? take it to the Lord in prayer!

In His arms he’ll take and shield thee; Thou wilt find a solace there.

CALL TO WORSHIP Joan Rude (based on 1 Corinthians 13:4-8) L: What is love?

OPENING PRAYER FOR MOTHERS Joan Rude Gracious, Loving Heavenly Father, Thank you for moms and for their tireless perseverance and devotion to their families. Please give moms the strength and wisdom to face each challenge. Help all moms to see and understand the eternal, cosmic significance of the role you have given them. Empower moms to touch the lives of all those around them with your unconditional love and grace. May moms around the world experience the blessings of rest and peace that can only come from You. We express our gratitude to you for moms and for your wonderful plan for families. May we glorify you in our families today. Amen

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Sarah Dvergsten

Lord, we come to you knowing that we have not always been shining examples of your love. Through your Holy Spirit may we learn to love others as you love us. Show us once again how to love unconditionally. Show us once again how to be gracious and merciful. Give us the wisdom and strength to love those who seem unlovable . In our weakness may your strength be made known. Amen.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE Sarah Dvergsten

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and the power that comes from God. (Ephesians 3:19)

HYMN OF MEDITATION How Can We Name a Love UMH # 111

How can we name a Love that wakens heart and mind, in dwelling all we know or think or do or seek or find?

Within our daily world, in every human face, Love’s echoes sound and God is found, hid in the common place.

If we awoke to life built on a rock of care

that asked no great reward but firm, assured, was simply there, we can, with parents’ names, describe, and thus adore,

Love unconfined, a father kind, a mother strong and sure.

When people share a task, and strength and skills unite in projects old or new, to make or do with shared delight,

our Friend and Partner’s will is better understood, That all should share, create, and care, and know that life is good.

So in a hundred names, each day we all can meet

a presence, sensed and shown at work, at home, or in the street. Yet every name we see, shines in a brighter sun:

In Christ alone is Love full grown and life and hope begun.

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION “Blest Be the Tie That Binds” UMH #557

Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love; The fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above.

Before our Father’s throne we pour our ardent prayers;

our fears, our hopes, our aims are one, our comforts and our care.

We share each other’s woes, our mutual burdens bear; And often for each other flows the sympathizing tear.

When we asunder part, it gives us inward pain;

But we shall still be joined in heart, and hope to meet again. THE GOSPEL READINGS John 15:9-17 Sarah Dvergsten SERMON “YOU ARE PART OF GOD’S GAME PLAN” Joan Rude

MOMENT OF TRANSFORMATION Joan Rude (Let us bring our concerns to God while Deanna Larson is playing “Take Time to be Holy” UMH # 395) THE LORD’S PRAYER Joan Rude

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not in-to temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

CONGREGATIONAL HYMN “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling” UMH # 384

Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven, to earth come down;

fix in us thy humble dwelling; all thy faithful mercies crown! Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love thou art;

visit us with thy salvation; enter every trembling heart.

Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit

into every troubled breast! Let us all in thee inherit;

let us find that second rest. Take away our bent to sinning;

Alpha and Omega be; end of faith, as its beginning,

set our hearts at liberty.

Come, Almighty to deliver, let us all thy life receive;

suddenly return and never, nevermore thy temples leave.

Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above,

Pray and praise thee without ceasing, Glory in thy perfect love.

Finish, then, thy new creation;

pure and spotless let us be. Let us see thy great salvation perfectly restored in thee;

changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place,

till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise.

BLESSING Joan Rude

“A CLOSING PRAYER” The time has come, O Lord, for us to leave this place;

Guide us and protect us and lead us in they grace. Wherever life may take us as we go our sep’rate ways,

Help us share with others the things we’ve shared today. May the peace of God the Father, and the love of Christ,

His Son, Guide us in the days ahead and strengthen us, each one. May the blessings of the spirit fill us from within;

God bless us and return us to this fellowship once again. POSTLUDE Deanna Larson, organist Praise to the Lord, the Almighty H. Hopson
