Steve’s Club started in a Camden City apartment complex. At the inception, it wasn’t a Club at all, just a desire to make a difference. A few months later, I had a small group of young athletes I was training with whatever equipment I could fit in my car. When I rented a small space for us to train, a good day brought thirty kids.

Now we are a network thirty Clubs strong, and Steve’s Club National Program (SCNP) is providing fitness, nutrition and mentorship to at-risk youth nationwide. SCNP provides the framework for Local Club leaders to operate as a 501(c)(3) entity while focusing on what they do best -- training kids. This year, we set a personal best proudly serving over 1,000 kids nationwide.

In today’s world of social media domination and high-speed Internet access, it’s ironic that Local Club growth is primarily driven through word of mouth. It starts with a workout, but through friendship and teamwork, Steve’s Club becomes a second home. The athletes lift weights, jump on boxes, climb ropes and do pull ups -- all as a way to pull out of the perils of life. Fellow athletes become family. Coaches become mentors. Experienced athletes recruit new athletes, classes fill up, and a cycle of caring is created in a community that needs it. CrossFit training is the hook, and the athletes who stay with us are truly looking for a better life.

Expanding SCNP is a bit more complex. Growth is our strategic push for 2016, and we’ve got a three-part plan to make it happen. We will start by growing awareness of our mission by sharing the success of our Local Clubs and the transformations in the kids they serve. Fundraising will continue to be a priority as we encourage CrossFit Affiliates nationwide to host our Beat The Streets Suggested Donation WOD. Lastly, as stewards of the Steve’s Club mission, we will continue to partner with CrossFit gyms in lower socioeconomic areas to bring fitness, nutrition, and mentorship to even more kids.

We imagine a country where kids from disadvantaged communities are given the opportunity to build a better life by valuing wellness and fitness and sharing that passion with others. With your help, we can achieve this vision.

If you have an interest in helping our team, we are looking for support at all levels -- Local Club leaders to assist existing programs or start new ones, ambassadors to share what we do with their communities, mentors and coaches to work with the kids, gym owners to host Beat The Streets, grant writers and fundraisers to support our financial needs, and donors at all levels. If you’d like to help, just drop me a line!

The growth and impact that you have helped us to achieve over the past five years is truly remarkable. For that, I sincerely thank you. I’m proud to say, we’ve only just begun.

Page 5: Steve's Club National Program 2015 Annual Report

IMAGINE A COUNTRY WHERE YOUTH FROM DISADVANTAGED BACKGROUNDS CAN EXPERIENCE CROSSFIT AND IMPROVE THEIR LIVES THROUGH FITNESS, NUTRITION, AND MENTORSHIP.

AFTER SCHOOL, THEY GO TO THEIR LOCAL STEVE’S CLUB WHERE THEY CAN INTERACT WITH POSITIVE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY, INSTEAD OF BEING EXPOSED TO DRUGS, GANGS, AND VIOLENCE. HELP US STRENGTHEN A NATION, ONE KID AT A TIME.

WHYCROSSFIT?

8 | STEVE’S CLUB NATIONAL PROGRAM | 2015 ANNUAL REPORT

Page 9: Steve's Club National Program 2015 Annual Report

CROSSFIT IS A FITNESS METHODOLOGY WITH A STRONG NUTRITION COMPONENT AND A COMMUNITY CENTERED ON POSITIVITY, CAMARADERIE, AND HEALTH.This framework helps at-risk youth grow into stronger and healthier individuals - both

physically and mentally. Working out and eating well become second nature, and they learn

life lessons in a supportive environment - discovering what they’re capable of, pushing

themselves to work hard and strive for something greater.

CrossFit Affiliates and trainers across the country have teamed up with Steve’s Club

National Program to start Local Steve’s Clubs in their own communities. Each week, these

Local Clubs are training athletes, building leaders, and making a difference in their

communities – one kid at a time.

AFTER OPENING MY AFFILIATE I BEGAN THE PROCESS OF STARTING A STEVE’S CLUB, WHICH WAS MUCH EASIER THAN I EXPECTED. WE FINISHED ALL OF OUR PAPERWORK IN JUST A FEW MONTHS, WHICH ALLOWED US TO GET TO THE REAL WORK OF HELPING KIDS IN OUR COMMUNITY. IT’S SUCH A PRIVILEGE TO BE A PART OF SOMETHING SO POWERFUL.

REGGIE WAS ONE OF OUR FIRST STEVE’S CLUB NYC ATHLETES. HE WAS SOFT-SPOKEN, INSECURE, AND HAD NO FATHER FIGURE. HE SLOWLY GAINED CONFIDENCE AND ONE DAY I TOLD HIM THAT HE COULD BE A TALENTED OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFTER, AND MAYBE EVEN COMPETE NATIONALLY. HE DIDN’T BELIEVE ME, BECAUSE I THINK IN HIS LIFE NO ONE HAD REALLY BELIEVED IN HIM BEFORE. WITHIN A FEW YEARS, HE PLACED IN THE TOP 10 AT YOUTH NATIONALS. NOW HE'S A COACH, FEELS COMFORTABLE SPEAKING TO LARGE GROUPS, AND IS IN COLLEGE. REGGIE HAS BECOME AN AMAZING PARTICIPANT IN OUR COMMUNITY.

THROUGH STEVE’S CLUB, KIDS LEARN PERSEVERANCE AND DISCIPLINE TO OVERCOME BOTH MENTAL AND PHYSICAL PAIN. WE SAW A HUGE CHANGE IN ONE OUR ATHLETES, TOMMY. HE WAS A VERY SKEPTICAL TEENAGER AND HAD STARTED ACTING OUT IN SCHOOL AFTER HIS MOTHER PASSED AWAY FROM ADDICTION. HIS DAD BROUGHT HIM TO STEVE'S CLUB, AND OVER THE LAST 2 YEARS HE HAS BLOSSOMED FROM A SULLEN TEENAGER INTO A HAPPY, SWEET, GOOFY, OUTSPOKEN KID THAT SAYS CROSSFIT HAS CHANGED HIS LIFE.

Approximately 30 teens are accepted each year for this week-long sleep away camp focused on fitness, nutrition, personal development, and leadership. These teens are between the ages 13-19 years old, and can be from any of our Local Clubs nationwide. The athletes are chosen based on their commitment to Steve’s Club, the embodiment of our Values as described in the coach’s letter of recommendation, and their personal essay. We bring them together at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, where they participate in a number of workshops, workouts, and team-building activities.

We’re especially grateful to our volunteers during Leadership Camp who work directly with the kids to teach leadership lessons and share their stories. These volunteers include CrossFit Games athletes, CrossFit Seminar Staff, members of the CrossFit community, active and retired military, EMTs, staff from Steve’s PaleoGoods, and Local Club coaches.

In the coming years, we’d like to provide this Leadership Camp experience to more of our Steve’s Club athletes. The cost to send a kid to Camp is $500 per athlete, but is free to them. This is our major initiave for the year, and most of our fundraising goes towards Camp expenses.

LEADERSHIP CAMP IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR FOR A SELECT GROUP OF STEVE’S CLUB ATHLETES.

Bomani Strength in Cleveland, OH has three remote locations and is one of the largest Steve’s Clubs. Local Club leader Amanda Stanoszek is a teacher and a trainer at Burning River CrossFit. The meaning of the African name “Bomani” is

strong solider, which is a fitting name for the Club. There is rival gang activity in and around the three schools that she operates in, and through Bomani Strength, she hopes to one day be able to break down barriers and stigmas and have the three programs work together. Amanda is planning a Gala in 2016 to celebrate the Club’s five-year anniversary and raise even more money for the kids she serves.
