PROJECT STATEMENTBackgroundThe New York Times has published an editorial titled “The Abstinence-Only Delusion.” This editorial talks about how it is foolish for schools to rely on abstinence-only sex eduation as a means to reduce teen pregnancies and STD’s. The federal government has been giving funds and grants to states and community organizations to forbid the promotion of contraceptive use.However, at least nine states have decided to give up federal matching funds because the abstinence-only sex education appears to be ineffective. This editorial is in need of an illustration.

Target AudiencesThe target audience is people who read the New York Times.

ObjectivesThe objective is to point out that it is foolish for adults to believe that most teens are going to stay abstinent just because of “abstinence-only” programs.

ObstaclesObstacles include religious people with a bias toward abstinence until marriage and biased studies which talk about how contraception fails.

Key BenefitThe main key benefit would be a reminder to adults that most teens will not remain abstinent until marriage.

Reasons WhyPeople need to wake up to reality that what may be anideological solution is not the most practical solution.

ToneThe tone should be satirical.
