Project Statement •  The reason why I chose to do my illustration the way I did was because of

the article itself. The article was on the three strike law in California, and how they are revising it because so many mentally ill patients are being wrongfully charged, thus eventually leading to a life sentence. I am trying to reach out to anyone that has been wrongfully tried of something and wants to make a change in the way court systems are ran these days. By reaching out to this target audience I would hope that they would want to make a change for their society and stop faulty court systems. The thing that stands between my work and the audience themselves is that they may believe the article portrays some stereotype, but that is being close minded and I would hope that someone would be mature and see the actual picture. I feel that one benefit of my piece is that the audience would feel sympathy thus hopefully leading to change. I feel that the tone for this piece would have to be emotional because it definitely reaches out to people that have been in similar situations before. I feel that my communication would take the form of newspaper, magazine, or even web page because its media that you read as well and that usually isn’t on things like news. I think the only thing I would have to advise to the creative people is that since this is in California it might be a good idea to publish the article in Spanish because of the population there.
