Steven Paul Hecht, 46, of Beaumont, Texas, died Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Jasper Memorial Hospital.

Steve spent his last days doing what he loved most, spending time with his church family at a summer Church Camp where he was mentoring 8th grade boys. Steve was a devoted father to his two beautiful daughters, Kialey and Abigail. He would do anything for his

children, which included things like dressing up as a fairy, a chicken and a banana. He had a terrific sense of humor with a hearty, infectious laugh.

Steve was a devout Christian and man of God. He was committed to furthering his relationship with the Lord and enjoyed inspiring others in his learnings. On any given day, Steve quoted a favorite scripture or inspirational quote on his Facebook page.

Steve loved the smell of the outdoors and enjoyed kayaking, trail running and hiking in solitude. He coached soccer and was also a triathlete, with intentions of completing his first Ironman in Panama City Beach, Florida, in 2019.

Steve was a wonderful cook, and often posted pictures of his latest healthy creations on Facebook. Steve also had a sweet tooth and loved Reese’s peanut butter cups. He was always on a quest to find the world’s best tacos.

Steve kept a journal of scriptures and notes from Church Sermons. The last scripture Steve wrote in his journal on July 23rd was Romans 8:11:

“If the spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”

In Steve’s notes, he left us with these final encouraging words:

“Every pain has a purpose” and “Worship the same in the dark and the day.”

Survivors include his daughters, Abigail Hecht of Beaumont and Kialey Harmon of Houston; parents, Barbara Hecht of Phoenix, Arizona and Bill Hecht and his wife, Charlene, of Nederland; brother, Mark Hecht and his wife, Jennifer Barre-Hecht, of San Antonio; nephews, Jacob Hecht, Benjamin Hecht, and Connor Hecht; uncles, Jerry Hecht and his wife, Terri, and Paul Kelly and his wife, Claudia, all of Lumberton; Klaus Schaedler and his wife, Brigitte and Dieter Schaedler and his wife, Bertl, all of Germany; aunt, Renate Swann of Phoenix, Arizona; and a host of cousins.
