Position Overview

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) is Australia's central bank. Its duty is to contribute to the maintenance of price stability, full employment, and the economic prosperity and welfare of the Australian people. It does this by setting the cash rate to meet a medium-term inflation target, working to maintain a strong financial system and efficient payments system, and issuing the nation's banknotes.

The Bank provides selected banking services to the Australian Government and its agencies, and to a number of overseas central banks and official institutions. Additionally, it manages Australia's gold and foreign exchange reserves.

The RBA's core values – promotion of the public interest, integrity, excellence, intelligent inquiry and respect – guide everything they do.

This summer, the RBA is offering two paid internships to suitable candidates in their penultimate or final year of a relevant bachelor or postgraduate degree. The internships will commence as negotiated between December 2019 and February 2020, and will be for a duration of 152 hours.

The interns will work within one of the below areas of the RBA.

a) International Department- Sydney CBD Location

The Intern will be placed in a small team in the International Department and will work closely with one of the analysts in this team. The intern will complete an analytical project to explore a real-world question about economics or finance that is relevant to the RBA. To do this, the Intern will do a brief literature review to provide background to the issue.

The project will primarily focus on analysing data to examine trends in international financial markets so as to explore a particular issue. The intern will then need to write up a short paper (approximately 4 pages) outlining their findings and will give a brief presentation to their team.
