Position Overview
Position purpose
The Inclusion and Intersectionality Intern will play an integral role contributing to the success of the People & Culture work group by analysing gaps in inclusion and working to address them. This is role is suitable for a person with a deep passion for equality, diversity and inclusion. This is a varied role that will involve supporting the P&C team specifically, and other TIO work groups as needed, with a variety of administration and programmatic tasks and is suitable for a graduate passionate about removing barriers to inclusion in the workplace.
The role requires a solid understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the ability to bring those insights into making a workplace culturally safe and inclusive.

The People & Culture team is positioned within the Strategy & Engagement Team at TIO.
P&C is accountable for the development and execution of the People & Culture strategy aligned with the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) strategy and to the 3-year organisational strategic plan.
P&C aims to develop, innovate and manage value-added, impact-driven and purposeful people & culture policies, projects and programs.

Organisation overview: Who we are
The TIO offers an independent and accessible service for resolving complaints about telephone or internet services. The service is free to consumers, and most complaints that come to the TIO are resolved between the consumer and the service provider. To resolve complaints, the TIO uses a wide range of dispute resolution techniques including conciliation and investigation.
The TIO was established in 1993 and legislation requires telecommunications providers to join the scheme. The TIO is not for profit, and independent of the Government, telecommunications companies, and consumers.
The TIO’s purpose is to provide fair, independent and accessible dispute resolution services and improve outcomes for consumers and members.

Key responsibilities
Smart and relevant research external developments in the field of equality, diversity and inclusion to keep team and other internal stakeholders informed.
Co-creating and co-facilitating/delivering workshops that focus on inclusion in the workplace
Research and propose (and in some cases, help implement) benefits that will create a more inclusive service delivery, work environment and understanding the impact of inclusive teams on the TIO (including mental health, cultural competencies, accessible and inclusive services and policies, and so forth).
Participate in our RAP working group and work with the P&C Team to implement specific actions.
Developing materials for all work groups (specifically designed to speak to the work group’s focus area) with a focus on intersectional EDI.
Writing case studies for internal use about TIO employees who are leading diversity and inclusion best practice or who are from relevant diverse groups.
Managing the Confluence EDI space and keeping it up to date.
This internship will provide a learning and development experience in the following areas:
A clear understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion in a workplace
Building and retaining stronger, inclusive teams in the workforce
Communication, presentation and facilitation skills
Project monitoring skills
This position is required to undertake other duties and project-related work as required and as directed.

Knowledge, skills & experience to be successful
Understanding of (or demonstrated commitment to know more) intersectionality within equality, diversity and inclusion
Demonstrated strength in analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated fabulous communication skills (can include different kinds of communication and not just verbal)
Solid ability and willingness to learn quickly – the various aspects of an organisation such as the TIO
Ability to work independently, exercise discretion and work collaboratively in a dynamic environment
Interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with a broad range of people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences
Natural curiosity with the ability to think laterally and introduce new and Innovative thinking to the position, the work and the P&C function.
Computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and outlook
What will be great if you have (Desirable):
An interest in mental health, cultural competencies, Reconciliation, intersectionality, diversity and inclusion.
An understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace
This position will report to the Senior Advisor – EDI and will work closely with all members of the P&C Team.
Qualifications
Be currently undertaking or have recently completed a degree level qualification in a related field, for example gender studies, human rights, cultural studies, political science, business.
