STDF Funding Opportunities (Science & Technology Development Fund)

In 2007, a complete restructuring of the S&T governance and management model in Egypt had
been done, in addition to the creation of the Higher Council for Science and Technology
(HCST), and the Science and Technological Development Fund (STDF).
STDF Mission STDF will build and strengthen S&T through capacity building of community and infrastructure
in the valued strategic areas of Egypt’s long-term competitiveness and development.

Basic & Applied Research Grants
Directed towards any researcher/group of researchers at all ages and all disciplines who
are willing to participate in competitive research in Egypt. This grant allows the
researcher(s) to work on the re-settlement of excellent research in Egypt.
Any researcher (PhD/MD holder), or group of researchers, affiliated to an Egyptian
Research Entity (Universities, Research Centers/institutes ...etc.) in Egypt can apply for
this Grant.
A maximum grant of 1,000,000 Egyptian Pounds over 1 – 3 years

This is a targeted capacity building grant based on existing capabilities and
competences, to establish centers of scientific excellence that serve the
development priority areas of Egypt, promoting top-level research, and
improving the research quality in Egypt.

Scope and Type of Activities
Under this call, “innovation” refers to:
Technological product innovation: a new or improved product
with considerably different characteristics from an existing one
Technological process innovation: adoption of new or
improved production method, including methods of product
packaging and delivery
New service or new method of service delivery
National Challenge Program
Challenge is a new STDF innovation competition foresees innovation-based capabilities
around specific technology challenge to fulfill immediate and specific requirements of
country needs and frontiers technologies. Challenge focuses on short term projects (1-3
years) run by small purpose-built teams. The listed challenges are determined based on real
existing industrial and societal needs. Submitted solutions /proposals preferred to be
implemented on semi industrial/industrial scale
Technology Incubators Program
The new STDF Incubation Program is a mechanism to accelerate development of new
companies and to speed up the commercialization of Research and Development (R&D)
results.
Innovate Egypt
Innovate Egypt provides early stage science and technology
innovators with the funding, training, and mentoring needed to
commercialize their inventions and create new ventures. During the
accelerated eight-week program, participants will:
• Identify and evaluate opportunities to commercialize your invention
• Test hypotheses through in-depth interviews with potential customers and
industry
• Participate in hands-on learning through in-person and online training and
coaching
• Network with other entrepreneurial teams engaged in similar work
