On March 3, Kentucky State University made the historic decision to suspend on campus learning and move to remote instruction eight days before the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus (COVID-19) a global pandemic.

We have made difficult decisions for the sake of our health, safety, and viability.

Despite the challenges associated with the COVID-19 outbreak, I have never been more excited for the future of our great University.

The ancient Olympic games were held in Olympia, Greece from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. In 1894, Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee leading to the first modern Games in Athens in 1896. To date, it remains the leading international sporting events of the world.

The Olympic motto has inspired and motivated athletes throughout the years. “Citius, Altius, Fortius” interpreted into English means “Faster, Higher, Stronger” and is a call to scale the heights, broaden horizons, reset standards, beat the clock, and better the best.

Kentucky State University is scaling the heights, broadening our horizons, resetting standards, beating the clock, and is increasingly better than the best.

"An old man going a lone highway, Came, at the evening cold and gray,To a chasm vast and deep and wide. Through which was flowing a sullen tideThe old man crossed in the twilight dim, The sullen stream had

no fear for him; But he turned when safe on the other side, And built a bridge to span the tide."

“Old man,” said a fellow pilgrim near, “You are wasting your strength with building here;Your journey will end with the ending day, You never

again will pass this way; You’ve crossed the chasm, deep and wide, Why build this bridge at evening tide?”

The builder lifted his old gray head; “Good friend, in the path I have come,” he said,“There followed after me to-day, A youth whose feet must pass this way. This chasm that has been as naught to me, To that

fair-haired youth may a pitfall be; He, too, must cross in the twilight dim; Good friend, I am building this bridge for him!”
