The workshop aims to meet the needs of middle managers and senior officials from all levels of government and local authorities, officials from public enterprises, representatives of business and trade associations and lawyers and economists involved in state aid procedures. The workshop will provide a forum for comparing national experiences as regards administrative arrangements for notifying and registering aid and the enforcement of recovery decisions. both indicators point to buoyant economic activity in the current quarter. The fall in the BCI was due to a marked deterioration in industry managers' assessment of the production expectations for the months ahead, while assessments of the stocks of finished products, total order books, export order books and the production trend observed in recent months remained unchanged. Read more August 2006: Economic sentiment weakens in both the EU and the euro area. After an almost continuous rise over the last 14 months, the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) fell by more than a point in both the EU and the euro area. However, at 108.4 for the EU and at 106.7 for the euro area, the indicator continues to perform well above its long term average. As there was not a full set of national data on which to base the August results, it will only become apparent in the coming months whether this setback was only temporary, or whether it points to a change in the development of economic sentiment. Read more MMiisscceellllaanneeaa Commission reaffirms its 2006 work programme priorities The European Commission has today adopted its mid-term review of the Commission work programme for 2006. This communication sets out key achievements that the Barroso Commission has delivered on during the first eight months of 2006, and reaffirms the political priorities that will be achieved during the second half of the year. In undertaking its mid-term review, the Commission has shown the flexibility required to react to changing political developments by making a series of amendments to the list of initiatives it will present over the coming months. The Commission has also reaffirmed its commitment to the better regulation agenda with a series of new initiatives to enhance delivery of this approach. Read more
