WELLINGTON COLLEGE BASIC ANATOMY ANAT 100
Welcome to Basic AnatomyBasic Anatomy can be a challenging course. It is very similar to learning a new language. It takes a lot of time and dedication
to learn the new language of Anatomy. However, the time and effort you put into this class is well spent because Basic Anatomy
is the foundation for several other classes at Wellington College. Your level of knowledge of Basic Anatomy directly impacts
your ability to understand Advanced Anatomy as well as Practical Class at both the Basic and Advanced levels.
This course is designed to help you learn the Anatomy concepts that you will need for your career in Massage Therapy.
Anatomy does require memorization but it also requires critical thinking. If you participate in class, complete all tasks,
assignments, projects, tests, and are diligent with your studies, I can promise you success in Basic Anatomy. I will always care
a little more than you care about your studies in Anatomy. Remember, I'm here to help so please contact me anytime.
Programs we will be using:Moodle - online Anatomy Course (contains everything you need for this course)
RenWeb - check your grades
GoToMeeting - attend evening classes/webinars
TestRunOnline - take practice tests and complete assigned tests (CBAs)
Please note- it is your responsibility to keep all assignments until you complete this course (in case there is a discrepancy in your grade)
- the instructor reserves the right to assign other projects, activities or assignments during the year
- some assignments/activities can only be completed if you are in attendance for the class in which it is assigned
Contact InformationFirst, check the Starter Kit and Moodle because everything you need for this course is online.

understand and describe the functions of bursa What do bursa do?
describe the composition (structure) of ligaments What type of connective tissue are ligaments made of?
joint cavity, joint capsule, cartilage, synovial fluid
identify and describe the different types of synovial joints planar, hinge, pivot, conyloid, saddle, ball-and-socket
identify and describe the actions at synovial joints
describe the nerve supply (innervation) of a joint Which nerves supply a joint? Where are the nerve endings located?
identify the function of structures found in synovial joints
understand the role joints play in motions allowed the shape of a joint greatly determines the actions available
JOINTS
identify and describe the structural classifications of joints fibrous, cartilaginous, synovial
identify and describe the functional classifications of joints synarthrosis, amphiarthrosis, diarthrosis
identify and describe the structures found in synovial joints joint cavity, joint capsule, cartilage, synovial fluid

describe the function and composition of the tendon What is a tendon made of and what does it do?
describe a muscle's origin and insertion
OBJECTIVE EXAMPLE
the origin of a muscle is its attachment to the more ____ bone; etc.

items listed in under this topic relate Anatomy and Massage together
identify and locate lymph nodes
BLOOD
understand the basic anatomy of the circulatory system systemic circulation, focusing on the major arteries and veins
OBJECTIVES FOR THE INTRODUCTION UNIT - PART 3

describe the anatomy of spinal nerves including nerve roots and plexuses
The "starter kit" and Introduction Unit are designed to help you become familiar with the pattern and routine of Anatomy.
The Introduction Unit introduced you to several topics such as actions, bones, joints, muscles,
nerve, blood, massage, etc.
As you continue your study of Anatomy, you will notice these same topics appear in every unit.
This is because we apply these topics (actions, bones, joints, muscles, nerves, etc.)
for every area of the body that we study.
