MASS SCHEDULES CHANGED NEXT WEEKEND. There will be only three Masses. Saturday 6pm Vigil, Sunday 6pm both in Star of the Sea. Our Feast day Mass Sunday 9am at Chanel College. It is a rare occasion when we can gather as a Parish Family to worship and celebrate. Our special thanks to Principal Dr Susan Bunkum and the Chanel College Community for hosting this Feast of Mary. All other Mass schedules next weekend are cancelled to enable us to celebrate our Feast Day together. While Sept. 12 is the actual Feast celebrated by all branches of the Marist Family, the origins of how the Parish was christened “Star of the Sea” in 1901 are unclear. Most likely a combination of devotion to Mary in earlier generations and the fact that priests since the beginning were Marists. As Pope Francis reflected, “Star of the Sea” is a name rich in meaning, helping us appreciate our Marian origin, spirit and identity. Mary, pray for you children. In Hebrew, Mary’s name would have been ‘Miryam’, which means “sovereign lady.” Although there are many other interpretations, the most commonly used translation of Mary’s name is “Star of the Sea”, so perfect because of Mary’s role in the plan of Salvation... September 12 marks the feast of the Holy Name of Mary in the Catholic Church. On this day, we venerate Mary’s name, since she is the Mother of God, the holiest of all creatures. After the Assumption, she was crowned Queen of heaven and earth. That makes her name a royal one, worthy of our respect. So when we refer to Mary as “Star of the Sea,” we recall that, like stars in the sky, Mary’s task...is to reflect the Light. Physical stars in the sky reflect the Sun’s light. Mary reflects the Light of her Son, Jesus Christ.” As “Star of the Sea,” Mary acts as a guide, always leading us to our Lord. In times of turbulent waters, Mary is a beacon, leading us out of danger and away from harm. When caught in a storm, she intercedes for us all. When we utter Mary’s name, we’re honouring her as Mother and Queen and recalling her holiness and intercessory “power.” - Pope Francis Why Mary’s ‘name day’ is special ? sick and marginalized, or among families. As guardians, each of us plays a part in listening to what the children have to say, making sure that every child is safe and protected from abuse and harm.“ Our Parish team, School staffs and volunteers are complying with our local diocesan policies, procedures, initiatives. It will be great to have you back... with a ‘French’ accent ? Farewell Fr Kevin Stewart. Thanks for your presence among us. He will be a ‘FIFO’ over the next 12 months to assist a little together with Sr Noreen in the Rocky Diocesan assemblies.

UBOBO PARISH FAMILY CAMPING Congratulations to Trish &

Graham Lindner, organisers of the wonderful camping experience enjoyed by 71 Parishioners

at Ubobo. The adventurous visited Old Railway Tunnels. Others Kirsten’s Cottage at Buliyan. Others simply relaxed or played games with their children. BBQ followed happy hour. 4 dampers were shared. Bush Poet Michael Lehey and

the Parish Ukulele Band entertained. 54 Adults & 17 Children joined the Ubobo parishioners for Sunday Mass celebrating Ubobo’s Feast day. 2018 looks already looks like more fun.
