TSW compare and contrast the similarities and differences between the different management theories.
WHERE IT ALL STARTED
• Soldiering- purposely working well under capacity for three reasons
• 1. If workers became too productive they would need fewer workers
• 2. Non-incentive pay systems. If you are going to pay the same no matter what then I will do the least amount of work. If you know I can work harder you will demand more.
• 3. Waste of effort doing rule-of-thumb methods
TAYLOR’S OBSERVATION
• Even the most basic, mindless tasks could be planned and strategic for productivity.
4 PRINCIPLES OF SCIENTIFIC MANAGEMENT
• 1. Replace rule-of-thumb work with methods based on scientific study
• 2. Scientifically select, train, and develop each worker
• 3. Cooperate with the workers to ensure that the scientifically developed methods are begging followed
• 4. Divide work nearly equally between management and workers
