HARRINGTON, Vincent Francis, 1903-1943

HARRINGTON, Vincent Francis, a Representative from Iowa; born in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa, May 16, 1903; attended the public schools and Trinity College of his native city; was graduated from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Ind., in 1925; instructor in history and economics and athletic director at the University of Portland, Portland, Oreg., 1926-1927; returned to Sioux City, Iowa, in 1927 and became vice president and general manager of a mortgage company; member of the State senate 1933-1937; was nominated as a candidate for Lieutenant Governor ofIowa in 1936 but withdrew to accept a nomination for the House of Representatives; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fifth, Seventy-sixth, and Seventy-seventh Congresses and served from January 3,1937, until his resignation on September 5, 1942, to accept a commission as major in the Air Corps, United States Army; died at Rutlandshire, England, on November 29, 1943, while on active duty in England; interment in the United States Military Cemetery at Brookwood, thirty miles southwest of London, England.
