Stop Bullying. Together.
Be a HeroWhat do Heroes look like?Heroes help other people. Everyday Heroes aren’t super, and they can’t fly. But Heroes CAN stop bullying! When you Stand Up and Speak Out you’re being a Hero! When you tell a parent, guardian or a person at your school about bullying you are a Hero!
Bullying hurts everyone. It hurts the person being bullied. It hurts the people who see bullying. It hurts the person bullying others. If we all work together we can stop bullying, and that makes us all Heroes.

What is bullying? Bullying is when someone does or says something over and over again, to hurt, harm or scare another person. Bullying is when one person pushes or shoves someone else. Bullying is when someone writes something mean or posts a photo or video on the Internet to hurt another person. Bullying is telling stories about someone else that makes them feel sad. Bullying is not playing with or talking to someone else just to make them feel bad. Bullying doesn’t happen once, it happens over and over again. Bullying hurts everyone, and the hurt can last a long time.
Why don’t kids tell adults about bullying? Most kids don’t tell an adult about bullying because:
• They think adults won’t understand.
• They think nothing can be done about it.
• They’re scared that if they tell, they will be bullied themselves or the bullying will get worse.
• They don’t know that what is happening to them is bullying.
• They don’t want to be called a “tattle-tale”.
Am I being a “tattle-tale” by telling an adult? No. When you tattle-tale, you are trying to get someone else in trouble. When you tell an adult about bullying you are helping someone else. Once you tell someone, you are not alone.
What should I do if I am being bullied? • Talktoagrown-up you trust. At school, this could be your teacher, principal or
another grown-up.
• Talktoyourparentorguardian.
• Walkaway from the bullying and tell a grown-up.

What should I do if I see someone else being bullied?
• Show the person being bullied that you are their friend.
• Help the person walk away.
• Tellthe person who is bullying that, “We don’t bully at our school”.
• Go get an adult.
What can I do if I am being bullied online or see bullying online?
• Stop: Don’t talk to the person who is bullying you.
• Block: Block the person so they cannot contact you again.
• Talk: Tell a parent / guardian or a grown-up you trust. Grown-ups may not know when bullying happens online, so it is important that you tell them when it does.
• Save: Save any comments or pictures that have been put online.
• Keepyourpasswordssecret.

What is your school doing to help stop bullying? In our schools, teachers and other adults are working to help stop bullying. Sometimes this means talking to those who bully and to those who are bullied. Sometimes it means talking to parents or guardians. It always means making your school a place where you feel safe.
We want to hear from you! What do you think will help stop bullying and make our schools the best they can be? If you have any ideas on how to help stop bullying, tell a parent, guardian, teacher, principal or another adult that you trust or send your ideas to [email protected].
Remember, if you see bullying and don’t do anything, it will get worse. Be a Hero, Stand Up and Speak Out!
