Hello and Salam to the Fresh Start Community,

My name is Abdu Dahr and I am the Director of Operations at Fresh Start Women’s Foundation.

Coming from Morocco and being raised by a strong, kind and resilient mother and a loving father, I was

taught to have the highest respect and value for our mothers/women. They are the foundation of our

community and represent strength, love, compassion and resiliency. I truly believe that women are the glue

that hold our families and our community together. With this, all women of every background should

be uplifted, honored and treated with dignity and respect.

As an organization, we are passionate about building an environment for all walks of life to come into our

doors and feel welcomed, comfortable and safe. It is a place to be valued and heard and to learn and grow

to reach one’s maximum potential. We recognize that diversity and inclusion bring great value to our

community and that our differences should be respected and celebrated. Maya Angelou says it best with,

“In diversity there is beauty and there is strength.”

Focusing on diversity and inclusion gives us a chance to not just talk about our values but to live them. I

consider myself a world citizen and I love when I walk into our Resource Center and see women of all walks

of life coming to Fresh Start to better their lives; therefore, bettering the lives around them as our actions

have a ripple effect. I am proud and inspired by these women and am often reminded of the importance for

continuous growth.

Our promise as an organization is to continue to listen, empathize, understand, act, and grow.

“We complete each other when we accept each other’s differences” – Fatima Dahr (my mom)

With love and respect,

Abdu Dahr
