St Stephen’s Church War Memorial This is what we discovered about the 29 men on our memorial: 1 George Henry Barrington – Gunner, Royal Artillery. His father was foreman at the sewage works, he was the oldest of five siblings. He attended St Stephen’s School. Before the war he worked as a labourer and his address was 2 Prospect Cottages, Beacon Hill. He died aged c30 having served in France and Flanders. He is remembered on the Victoria Park memorial in Bath but on it his name is given as ‘Berrington’. 2 William Edward Chittem, Private Somerset Light Infantry 7. William was the son of Albert & Mary of 5 Belle Vue Buildings, Lansdown Road. In the 1911 census he is shown to be living at 38 Primrose Hill. He was the eldest of six children (five boys & one girl). He died aged 19 and is remembered at the Menin Gate, Belgium. 3 Thomas Ewart Coote Y Private Australian Expeditionary Force. Thomas was part of the 58 th Battalion. We don’t know why he joined the Australian Expeditionary Force as he was born and raised in England. He died aged 26, and is buried at Estaires, France. He was born in Herts, Stortford and was the son of Thomas & Kate of 17 Richmond Place. In
