“Because of the hardness of your hearts [Moses] wrote this commandment.” (Mk 10:5)
Dear Parish Family,
The Pharisees are at it again. They knew why Moses allowed divorce, but they thought they could trick Jesus with a silly question. Jesus points them back to the beginning when God established the marriage covenant as a life-giving union between God and man. A covenant of love, order, and peace. Due to the fall of mankind, the order that God had put in place unraveled. With this unraveling of God's order, we see all segments of our society suffer due to selfishness, pride, and ego. When we allow our base passions to rule over us, we bring into our world sin and chaos.
However, sin and chaos do not have to have the final say. It is in Jesus we find the reestablishment of the covenant with God. It is Jesus's sacrifice upon the cross that reunites each and everyone to the Father. In our relationships, man and woman, husband and wife, we have to seek the higher order of our human passions. We must learn to be a sacrament for one another and the world. Marriage is one of the highest forms of sacramental life .
Marriage is more than a legal contract between two parties but a sacrament – a living sign of God’s presence and grace in our midst. It is the manifestation of the love of God, a love that knows neither condition nor limit in its ability to give and forgive.In every stage of a couple’s life, a marriage centered on the love of God always moves beyond hardness of heart to embracing God’s spirit of generosity and selflessness. Pray that we may return to the order God long-established to ensure healthy children, vibrant families, and a moral society.
Last Saturday, our parish Building Committee met with the consulting firm of Clyde Kunz and Associates. It was a very productive meeting and we are working on many fronts to ensure that the process of building a new parish church and all the details necessary are transparent for our parish family. We will be formulating some important data points for this process both pro and con. While many are in favor of the move, there are still others who have concerns and so we feel as a committee it is important to know and understand those concerns, too. As with all things, this is very slow process and our Building Committee and I want to make sure we do things well so that at the end of the day, we can feel proud and blessed we built up not just a building we call church, but we built up one another in love, respect, and fraternity.
Lastly, next week all priests from the Diocese of Tucson will be on our priest retreat for a time of rest, reflection, and prayer. Please keep us in your prayers as we enter this important time in our lives. I also ask that you continue to pray that we have young men and women from our parish community consider a vocation to the priesthood, religious life, and married life. All vocations in the Church lead to the Glory of God. If you are considering a vocation please reach out and make an appointment with me and I would be more than happy to pray and discuss this grace filled opportunity with you. God’s blessings upon you and see you all upon my return.

“Moisés prescribió esto, debido a la dureza del corazón de ustedes.” (Marcos 10, 5)
Estimada Familia Parroquial,
Los fariseos han vuelto a hacerlo. Sabían por qué Moisés permitía el divorcio, pero pensaron que podían engañar a Jesús con una
pregunta tonta. Jesús los regresa al principio cuando Dios estableció el pacto matrimonial como una unión vivificante entre Dios y el
hombre. Un p
acto de amor, orden y paz. Debido a la caída de la humanidad, el orden que Dios había establecido se deshizo. Con este
desmoronamiento del orden de Dios, vemos que todos los segmentos de nuestra sociedad sufren debido al egoísmo, el orgullo y el ego.
Cuando permitimos que nuestras bajas pasiones nos gobiernen, traemos a nuestro mundo el pecado y el caos.
Sin embargo, el pecado y el caos no tienen que tener la última palabra. En Jesús encontramos el restablecimiento de la alianza con
Dios. Es el sacrificio de Jesús en la cruz lo que reúne a todos y cada uno de nosotros con el Padre. En nuestras relaciones, hombre y
mujer, marido y mujer, tenemos que buscar el orden superior de nuestras pasiones humanas. Debemos aprender a ser un sacramento
unos para otros y para el mundo. El matrimonio es una de las formas más elevadas de vida sacramental.
El matrimonio, más que un contrato legal entre dos partes es un sacramento, un signo vivo de la presencia y la gracia de Dios entre
nosotros. Es la manifestación del amor de Dios, un amor que no conoce condición ni límite en su capacidad de dar y perdonar En cada
etapa de la vida de una pareja, un matrimonio centrado en el amor de Dios siempre va más allá de la dureza del corazón para estrechar
el espíritu de generosidad y abnegación de Dios. Oren para que podamos regresar al orden que Dios estableció hace mucho tiempo
para asegurarnos de tener niños sanos, familias vibrantes y una sociedad moral.
El sábado pasado, nuestro Comité de Construcción parroquial se reunió con la firma consultora Clyde Kunz and Associates. Fue una
reunión muy productiva y estamos trabajando mucho para asegurarnos que el proceso de construcción de la nueva iglesia parroquial y
todos los detalles necesarios sean transparentes para nuestra familia parroquial. Estaremos formulando algunos datos importantes para
este proceso tanto a favor como en contra. Si bien muchos están a favor de la medida, hay otros que tienen inquietudes y, por lo tanto,
creemos que como comité es importante conocer y comprender esas inquietudes también. Como con todas las cosas, este es un proceso
muy lento y nuestro Comité de Construcción y yo queremos asegurarnos de que hacemos las cosas bien para que, al final del día,
podamos sentirnos orgullosos y bendecidos de haber construido no solo un edificio que llamamos iglesia, pero nos edificamos unos a
otros en amor, respeto y fraternidad.
Por último, la próxima semana todos los sacerdotes de la Diócesis de Tucson participarán en un retiro para sacerdotes; un tiempo de
descanso, reflexión y oración. Por favor, mantengannos en sus oraciones al entrar en este momento importante de nuestras vidas.
También les pido que continúen orando para que los hombres y mujeres jóvenes de nuestra comunidad parroquial consideren una
vocación al sacerdocio, la vida religiosa y la vida matrimonial. Todas las vocaciones en la Iglesia conducen a la Gloria de Dios. Si está
considerando una vocación, por favor comuníquese y programe una cita conmigo; estaría más que feliz de orar y discutir esta
oportunidad llena de gracia con usted. Qué las bendiciones de Dios desciendan sobre ustedes. Nos vemos a todos a mi regreso.
