Pope Francis’ October Prayer Intention Each year, the Holy Father asks for our prayers for a specific intention each month. You are invited to answer the Holy Father’s request and to join with the many people worldwide in praying for his intentions. This month, we pray with Pope Francis that all workers may receive respect and protection of their rights, and that the unemployed may receive the opportunity to contribute to the common good.

Photo Directory Volunteers Needed

Parishioner Debby Rand is coordinating our new Parish Directory, and she needs your help! She is in need of volunteers from St. Peter’s as well as from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton for the following tasks:

1) Assist in putting together packets to hand out. 2) Help at the registration table after each Mass on October 21, October 28, November

4, and November 11. 3) Greet parishioners and check them in as they arrive to get their photos taken (many

various dates) 4) Call parishioners that have not signed up yet, to ensure they get registered

If you can assist in any way, please contact Debby Rand at (706) 756-2695 or via email at [email protected].

Pastor’s Corner

As we are in the middle of October, we are involved in many activities with festivals, back to school, and sports events. The colors of the season are approaching. I am mindful of the diversities of culture in our parish family. As your new pastor of three months here, I am enjoying seeing you at Church, and equally important in our pastoral work engaging our community. Because of this fact, I know our parish is beginning to grow. Consequently then, it is a good idea to have a new parish directory, where our faces and names can be joined together as one body of Christ. Although we attended various different Masses and also we participate with our time and talent in different ministries; we ought to remember that we are one in the Lord in our Baptism. The parish pictorial directory is an important vehicle whereby we can connect with each other in ministry and friendship. Specifically, the Pictorial Directory will include members of both St. Peter’s Catholic Church and our mission community, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Mission. I would like a full 100% participation in this endeavor. Mrs. Debby Rand is our Coordinator of the Pictorial Directory. Please look for information in upcoming bulletins about details. The next two Sunday’s, I will be away traveling in the Holy Land. I will be leaving the country on October 20th and returning on October 31st. Please see the parish bulletin for details and schedules of religious services while I am away. I will be praying and thinking of you as I traverse the land where Jesus was born, lived and died. Your thoughts and prayers are and will be in my heart, especially during the celebration of Mass each day.

Blessings, Fr. Tim / Bendiciones, Padre Tim

Disaster Relief and a Special Initiative to Assist Puerto Rico

When a natural disaster occurs in the United States and its territories, electronic donations may be made and parish collections may be directed to Catholic Charities USA, which assures us that 100% of donations go to the local organizations providing assistance. They and their member agencies respond to immediate emergency needs for such necessities as water, food, shelter and medical care, as well as to the long-term need to rebuild and recover after widespread destruction. Their address information follows: Catholic Charities USA, Online: www.catholiccharitiesusa.org, Mail: Catholic Charities USA, P.O. Box 17066, Baltimore MD 21297-1066, Phone: 800-919-9338. When disasters happen in other countries, collections and individual donations should be directed to Catholic Relief Services (CRS): Catholic Relief Services, Online: www.crs.org, Mail: Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore, MD 21297-0303, (Please indicate the specific relief effort in the memo line), Phone: 877-Help-CRS.

In response to the unprecedented destruction caused by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, several Puerto Rican clergy and laity within our Archdiocese are coordinating a special effort to help the local dioceses there. The group is working with Caritas Puerto Rico, a member agency of Catholic Charities, to collect funds and supplies to be shipped to Puerto Rico to assist in the relief effort. Cash donations from parish collections or individuals may be sent to the Chancery (Attention: Puerto Rico Relief) to defray the costs of shipping and support the work of Caritas. Desperately needed supplies include bottled water, non-refrigerated milk, canned food, batteries of all types, bed linens, baby food, and disposable diapers. Please contact Randy Ortiz (404-955-0684 or [email protected]) if your parish intends to participate and to arrange delivery. Volunteers are being sought at both the parish level to collect items and at the warehouse to prepare for shipping. Anyone interested may contact Randy.

Yard Sale / BBQ The parishioners of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Mission Church will have a yard sale, BBQ, and bake sale on Saturday, October 21st from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. The BBQ includes pork, sweet potato, coleslaw, and bread. $7 per single meal or $25 for a family of four. They will also have a bake sale in uptown Manchester during Manchester Market from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Morning/Evening Prayer As you may know, Father Tim will be traveling on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land during the last 10 days of October. While he is away, we will be praying the Morning or Evening Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours in place of our regular weekday Masses. The Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Divine Office or the Work of God (Opus Dei), is the daily prayer of the Church, marking the hours of each day and sanctifying the day with prayer. The Hours are a meditative dialogue on the mystery of Christ, using scripture and prayer. In preparation, Father Tim will be leading Evening Prayer on Monday, October 16th at 5:30pm, prior to the evening Mass, and Morning Prayer on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 17th & 18th at 8:30am, prior to the morning Mass. Morning and Evening prayer will be led by prayerful lay people during Father Tim’s absence. For more information on the Liturgy of the Hours, please visit usccb.org.

Catholic Foundation: Gifts of Insurance Insurance is a great way to give a larger gift to the parish endowment fund or building fund than you would normally

be able to give through cash. You can do this by designating the parish endowment fund as the beneficiary of your insurance. Speak with your insurance professional about the tax benefits in life and through your estate. For additional information regarding gifts of insurance, please contact

Juliet Greco at the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia [email protected] or 404-497-9440. You can also read about additional types of planned gifts at www.cfnga.org.

Save these dates now, and we will have more information here in the bulletin in the coming weeks! This is also the perfect opportunity for holiday family photos and gift giving!

SEPTEMBER 27 – NOVEMBER 5

40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that takes a determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families. It puts into action a desire to cooperate with God in the carrying out of His plan for the end of abortion. It draws attention to the evil of abortion through the use of a three-point program: Prayer and fasting, Constant vigil, Community outreach.

The 40-day campaign tracks Biblical history, where God used 40-day periods to transform individuals, communities and the entire world. From Noah in the flood to Moses on the mountain to the disciples after Christ’s resurrection, it is clear that God sees the transformative value of His people accepting and meeting a 40-day challenge. Want to end abortion? If you do, the first thing you must do is pray. Prayer is at the center of 40 Days for Life. During each campaign, we are calling on people of faith across the nation … and around the world … to fall on their knees before the Lord, asking Him to hear our plea and heal our land. Pray outside an abortion facility. Pray at church. Pray at work. Pray in the car. Pray at home with your family. To find a location outside an abortion facility, go to 40daysforlife.com. To pray in front of the abortion clinic in Columbus, GA once a week during the 40 Days for Life, contact Theresa Shane at 309-635-2712.
