Dear Parishioners: Yes, it really is the end of August and we are approaching Labor Day weekend and a new school year. Even though our calendar says January 1st is the first day of the year, the way most people and groups plan and form their schedules for the year are built around the beginning of school. So, I want to wish everyone ‘Happy New Year!’ I once read a story about the legendary movie executive, Samuel Goldwyn, (that’s the G in MGM) who was one of those people who saved everything. Through the years, he refused to allow his staff to throw anything away. His assistant began to get the idea that she was drowning in stacks of office memos, telephone messages etc. that were piled everywhere in the office. One day, in desperation, she said to Mr. Goldwyn: “Please let me throw away memos, notes and letters that are more than ten years old.” Goldwyn replied: “All right. But don’t forget to make a copy before you do so…” In the Gospel we read for this day, Jesus is schooling his disciples in the way of His teaching and His kingdom. Important is the fact that Jesus will be gone from these disciples in a short time. He was trying to teach them to copy Him, to imitate Him, in a way that the kingdom of God will flourish…by serving all those in need. As we gather together this weekend as the parish community of St. Peter the Apostle, can we hear Jesus saying to us as well: copy me, imitate me! St. John Neumann became a saint because the people he served saw him trying to do what Jesus did while on earth; loving and serving all those around him by the grace and gift of God. Have a blessed week! Fr. Raymond Collins, C.Ss.R.

Queridos Feligreses:

Padre Raymond Collins, C.Ss.R.
