A Loving Church, Making a Difference in the World
Letter from the Pastor
Spring is finally here! Hopefully the snows and biting cold are behind us. We also look forward
and see that Easter is coming to us. The season of resurrection—it seems fitting with flowers in bloom
and trees starting to show their green leaves again. The season embodies hope, and with Jesus being
resurrected from the tomb, it certainly isn’t hard to see why.
Something to keep in mind, though, is the hardship and pain we walk through to get to Easter. It
is a tough journey for us to take when we go through Holy Week—just as it was for Jesus. We
remember what had to happen to get to resurrection. That is death. But without darkness, we can’t
appreciate light. Without death, we can’t have resurrection. That’s not to say we can’t have happiness
without being sad, but we do know that we can’t get through to resurrection without Jesus dying on the
cross.
I believe this is true: we will go through tough times, but God gives us the strength to get
through. It may be hard to see, and we may have to walk through tough places, but God walks beside
us. We may even have to work hard on ourselves; we may have to confront things inside us that we
don’t like and visit places within ourselves that we feel is best left alone.
We can look at the parsonage remodeling similarly. We have all the pieces there. There is a
great foundation within us, and most of what we have is great, and worth preserving. That doesn’t
mean we don’t need some updating or changing. We may have to demolish some things so that we can
build them back up in a way that is more pleasing to God.
Also like a house, the remodeling may change the way things look. The changes could make
something look very differently from the way it is now. That isn’t a bad thing—if we change for God,
then whatever replaces what is there will be amazing and something completely different than what we
have in place. That’s not a bad thing, because just like Jesus being raised from the tomb, we have the
opportunity and hope to become people of the resurrection.
See you in the pews,
Pastor Jeff
