*PRAYER OF ADORATION
Minister O God, the protector of all who trust in You, without whom nothing is strong, and People: nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with You as our
ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
*PSALTER READING PSALM 16
16 Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
2 I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord;
I have no good apart from you.” 3 As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight. 4 The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply; their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out or take their names on my lips. 5 The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. 6 The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. 7 I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. 8 I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. 10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. 11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Minister: The Word of the Lord! People: Thanks be to God!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION The congregation is invited to kneel through the Pronouncement of Forgiveness.
Minister Our great God and Father, in your abundant goodness and mercy, You gave and People: your only Son to be our Savior. Jesus willingly humbled Himself and
embraced the shame and horror of death on a cross, that we—helpless, undeserving, guilty, and needy sinners—might be reconciled to You. Yet we are so unwilling to humble ourselves or set aside our rights for the sake of others. We don’t often consider the interests of others as we pursue our own selfish interests. Forgive us for the pride that so often wounds relationships with those we ought to love. May your Spirit work powerfully in us that we might be conformed more and more to the image of your Son, Jesus, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever, world without end. Amen.
Please take a moment to silently confess your sin.
PRONOUNCEMENT OF FORGIVENESS
Minister: Jesus Christ bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Unison: Thanks be to God! PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE I CHRONICLES 29:10B-13
Minister Blessed are You, O LORD, the God of Israel our Father, forever and ever. and People: Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory,
and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and You are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great, and to give strength to all. And now we thank You, our God, and praise your glorious name. Amen.

RENEWING OUR FAITH
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH WESTMINSTER LARGER CATECHISM Questions 46-48
Minister: What was the estate of Christ’s humiliation? People: The estate of Christ’s humiliation was that low condition, wherein he for our
sakes, emptying Himself of his glory, took upon him the form of a servant, in his conception and birth, life, death, and after his death, until his resurrection.
Minister: How did Christ humble Himself in his conception and birth? People: Christ humbled Himself in his conception and birth, in that, being from all
eternity the Son of God, in the bosom of the Father, he was pleased in the fullness of time to become the son of man, made of a woman of low estate, and to be born of her; with divers circumstances of more than ordinary abasement.
Minister: How did Christ humble Himself in his life? People: Christ humbled Himself in his life, by subjecting Himself to the law, which he
perfectly fulfilled; and by conflicting with the indignities of the world, temptations of Satan, and infirmities in his flesh, whether common to the nature of man, or particularly accompanying his low condition.
Unison: Thanks be to God! *GLORIA “GLORIA PATRI” Patrick Doyle

*NEW TESTAMENT LESSON PHILIPPIANS 2:19-30
19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be cheered by news of you. 20 For I have no one like him, who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare. 21 For they all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. 22 But you know Timothy's proven worth, how as a son with a father he has served with me in the gospel. 23 I hope therefore to send him just as soon as I see how it will go with me, 24 and I trust in the Lord that shortly I myself will come also.
25 I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, and your messenger and minister to my need, 26 for he has been longing for you all and has been distressed because you heard that he was ill. 27 Indeed he was ill, near to death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. 28 I am the more eager to send him, therefore, that you may rejoice at seeing him again, and that I may be less anxious. 29 So receive him in the Lord with all joy, and honor such men, 30 for he nearly died for the work of Christ, risking his life to complete what was lacking in your service to me. Minister: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God!
*PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION PROCLAMATION OF GOD’S WORD REV. DAN THOMPSON
“REFLECTIONS OF CHRIST JESUS” PHILIPPIANS 2:19-30
Big Idea: Consider the flow of thought in Philippians 2: Concerned about divisions developing in the church at Philippi, Paul commanded the people to “do nothing from rivalry and conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others (v. 3-4). He called them to embrace the mindset of Christ (v. 5) and reminded them of the humble state Jesus gladly embraced (v. 6-11). He then urged them to work out this mindset as a church body with a reliance on God, who is at work in them both to will and to work for His good pleasure (2:12-13). By doing this, they will “shine as lights in the world” in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation (v. 15). Encouragement to emulate Jesus is needed, but an example of humble service makes Christ-likeness real and visible. In verses 19-30, Paul sets before the Philippians two examples of the humble Christ-like attitude he described in verses 3-11.

1. Timothy: I have no one like him. 2. Epaphroditus: He nearly died for the work of Christ. 3. The appeal: Honor such men.

RESPONDING IN THANKS *HYMN OF RESPONSE “NOT HAUGHTY IS MY HEART” Alt. Tune: TRENTHAM
Not haughty is my heart, not lofty is my pride; I do not seek to know the things God’s wisdom hath denied. With childlike trust, O Lord, in you I calmly rest, Contented as a little child upon its mother’s breast. Ye people of the Lord, in him alone confide; From this time forth and evermore his wisdom be your guide.
GIVING TO GOD & VOCAL OFFERTORY “THE HEAV’NS RESOUNDING” We invite you to give generously as you are able. Music by Ludwig van Beethoven; Text by Oscar R. Overby
The heav’ns resounding his glory eternal, And all creation, praise one God.
The earth and the ocean his love and devotion, His truth and pow’r proclaim abroad! And angels sing of his glory incarnate.
Incarnate the Son of Man, yet King of kings. The hosts re-echo, all praise and thanksgiving
O holy God and King divine, Shall now and evermore be Thine.

*SENDING FORTH HYMN “THE CHURCH’S ONE FOUNDATION” (Verses 1 & 6) AURELIA
The church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord; She is his new creation by water and the Word: From heav’n he came and sought her to be his holy bride; With his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died. Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One, And mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won: O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we, Like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee.
Minister: Go in peace to love and serve the risen Lord Jesus Christ. People: Thanks be to God! Please wait to be dismissed by the ushers.
