Nativity of Saint John the Baptist June 24, 2018

John the Baptist was a contemporary of Christ who was known for

evangelization and his baptizing of Jesus Christ. John the Baptist was

born through the intercession of God to Zachariah and Elizabeth, who

was otherwise too old to bear children. According to scriptures, the

Angel Gabriel visited Elizabeth and Zachariah to tell them they

would have a son and that they should name him John. Zachariah was

skeptical and for this he was rendered mute until the time his son was

born and named John, in fulfillment of God's will. When Elizabeth was pregnant with John, she was visited by Mary, and John leapt in her womb. This re-

vealed to Elizabeth that the child Mary carried was to be the Son of God. John began public ministry around 30 AD, and was known for attracting large crowds across the prov-

ince of Judaea and around the Jordan River. When Jesus came to him to be baptized, John recognized

him and said, "It is I who need baptism from you." Jesus told John to baptize Him anyway, which he

did, whereupon the heavens opened, and the Spirit of God was seen like a dove. The voice of God

spoke, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." John instructed his followers to turn to Christ, calling Him the "Lamb of God" and these people were

among the first Christians. Following his baptism of Christ, John's popularity grew so much that he alarmed King Herod. Herod or-

dered him arrested and imprisoned. John spoke with Herod on several occasions and condemned his

marriage to his half-brother's wife. This condemnation would be his downfall as King Herod promised to grant a wish to his daughter. In

revenge for John the Baptist's condemnation of her mother's scandalous marriage to Herod, she asked for

John's head. King Herod reluctantly obliged. John the Baptist died sometime between 33 and 36 AD. John the Baptist's feast day is June 24, and the anniversary of his death is August 29 and is sometimes

celebrated with a second feast. John the Baptist is the patron saint of Jordan, Puerto Rico, French Canada

and many other places. Martyr of Vietnam. He was beheaded after torture by authorities and canonized

in 1998 by Pope John Paul II.

We are inviting all parishioners who is inter-ested in volunteering during the Festival Sea-son, to call the office and sign up.

There are many ways that you can help dur-ing the Festival. If you are interested in helping with cooking, please stop by the Par-ish Kitchen (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays) after 5pm. Everyone is invited to participate!

Natividad de San Juan Bautista

Celebramos hoy la fiesta de San Juan el

Bautista, el precursor de Jesús. En el desierto de

Judá preparó al pueblo judío para la venida del

Mesías, exhortándole a la conversión de

corazón y a la esperanza. Cumplió con fidelidad

su misión, sin detenerse ante las dificultades y

los tropiezos de quienes no pararon hasta hacer

callar su voz profética con el martirio.

Fijémonos hoy en la figura austera y heroica de

Juan: las características más importantes de su vida pueden ayudarnos en nuestro propio camino de

creyentes. Su misión fue la de llevar a los hombres hacia Jesús. La de facilitar y hacer posible el encuentro. Y de

hacer tomar conciencia del pecado, preparando, de este modo, los corazones de los hombres para recibir

el anuncio del perdón. Poniendo de relieve la esclavitud que los mantenía prisioneros, los abría para

acoger la Buena Noticia de la liberación y la salvación, con sencillez lo reconocía cuando decía: "No

soy lo que vosotros pensáis, pero después de mí viene otro de quien no soy digno de desatar la sandalia

de los pies". Celebrando su fiesta y mirándonos en su figura podríamos plantearnos hoy unas preguntas muy serias.

Porque también cada uno de nosotros ha recibido una misión que no puede ser reemplazada por nadie.

El don de la fe que hemos recibido es al mismo tiempo una responsabilidad. ¿Hasta qué punto sabemos

aproximarnos a las angustias y aspiraciones de quienes están a nuestro lado? Quizás muchas veces

estamos alejados de los demás y entonces nuestra palabra resulta fría e impersonal, incapaz de hallar eco

alguno en quienes nos rodean, incapaz de hacer mella, como un cuchillo mal afilado. Cuantas más

barreras haya entre nosotros y los demás, más difícil nos será contagiar algo, y menos aún la fe. ¿Somos conscientes de que nuestra misión, como la de Juan, es la de facilitar a los demás el encuentro

con Jesús o bien damos una impresión excesiva de predicarnos a nosotros mismos? ¿Cuál es nuestra

postura cuando la situación se vuelve adversa? ¿Somos capaces en estos momentos de mantener una

actitud valiente, constante y decidida o nos echamos atrás dejándolo para otra ocasión más propicia y

menos comprometida? Hermanos pidámosle a Dios que sepamos cumplir con fidelidad y con sencillez

FESTIVAL FOLCLORICO 27 al 29 de julio

¡ Ya Iniciamos con las Preparaciones!

Como cada año invi-tamos a todos los que deseen trabajar

en los preparativos para el Folk Festival a que llamen a la Oficina Parroquial o contactar uno de los organizadores y dar su información para ser voluntario. Cada semana estamos en el área de la cocina los lunes, martes, jueves y viernes, haciendo las empanada, alcapurrias entre otras. Están todos invitados a colaborar. Necesitamos donaciones: Arroz (grano largo), Aceite, Gandules, Pernil. Pueden traerlo a la oficina Parroquial de Lunes a Jueves de 8 a 3pm, tel. 978-459-0561. O en las misas de fin de semana. When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child

she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and relatives

heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy to-

ward her, and they rejoiced with her. When they

came on the eighth day to circumcise the child, they

were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but

his mother said in reply, "No. He will be called John."

But they answered her, "There is no one among your

relatives who has this name." So they made signs,

asking his father what he wished him to be called. He

asked for a tablet and wrote, "John is his name," and

all were amazed. Immediately his mouth was

opened, his tongue freed, and he spoke blessing God.

Then fear came upon all their neighbors, and all the-

se matters were discussed throughout the hill coun-

try of Judea. All who heard these things took them to

heart, saying, "What, then, will this child be?" For

surely the hand of the Lord was with him. The child

grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the

desert until the day of his manifestation to Israel .

123 What is the task of the Church?

The →CHURCH’s task is to make the kingdom of God, which has already begun with Jesus, germinate and grow in all nations. [763-769, 774-776, 780] Wherever Jesus went, heaven touched earth: the kingdom of God was inaugurated, a kingdom of peace and justice. The →CHURCH serves this kingdom of God. She is not an end in her-self. She must carry on what Jesus started. She should act as Jesus would act. She continues the sacred signs of Jesus (the →SACRAMENTS). She hands on Jesus’ words. That is why the Church, for all her weakness, is a formidable bit of heaven on earth.

Cộng đoàn Kitô hữu là gì ? Cộng đoàn Kitô hữu là một cộng đoàn dân thánh, được quy tụ có phẩm trật dưới quyền Đức Giám Mục (QCTQ/SLR 91).

Nhìn vào đâu để nói lên cộng đoàn Kitô hữu là một cộng đoàn có phẩm trật ? Nhìn vào buổi cử hành thánh lễ để thấy cộng đoàn Kitô hữu là một cộng đoàn có phẩm trật : trong buổi cử hành thánh lễ, thừa tác viên cũng như tín hữu giáo dân, không ai là khán giả câm lặng nhưng mỗi người đều tham gia tích cực vào buổi cử hành và thực hiện phận vụ của mình theo qui tắc phụng vụ.

Chủ tế là ai ? Chủ tế là người trong Hội Thánh có chức thánh để dâng hy lễ nhân danh Đức Kitô, để chủ tọa cộng đoàn tín hữu được quy tụ (QCTQ/SLR 93) ; ngài thay mặt Đức Kitô là Đầu mà hành động (LM 2).

1. Chúa đã dò xét con và Ngài đã biết, biết con khi đứng khi ngồi, biết con suy nghĩ những gì, biết con trên muôn nẻo đường, biết con trên dặm hành hương.

2. Chúa đã tạo tác con từ trong thai mẫu, nắn con trong tấm thân này. Cất lên câu tán dương Ngài, tác nên thân con lạ lùng, biết bao nhiêu là kỳ công.

LỄ SINH NHẬT THÁNH GIOAN TẨY GIẢ

Gioan Tẩy giả là ai? Thánh Gio-an Tẩy Giả là một nhà giảng thuyết người Do-thái. Tin Mừng theo Thánh Lu-ca cho biết, Ngài là con của tư tế Da-ca-ri-a, thuộc nhóm A-vi-a, dòng tộc A-ha-ron, và chào đời tại vùng Judea, Do-thái, chỉ trước Chúa Giê-su chừng sáu tháng (xc. Lc 1,5-36; 1,39-80). Khoảng năm 28 sau Chúa Ki-tô, Thánh Gio-an đã xuất hiện công khai tại Galilea và tại Judea để rao giảng và mời gọi người ta thống hối. Bên cạnh việc rao giảng sám hối, Ngài còn cử hành nghi thức Thanh Tẩy cho tất cả những ai đến với Ngài, bằng cách dìm họ xuống nước. Vì thế, Thánh Nhân được gọi là Gio-an Tẩy Giả. Thánh Nhân hoạt động trong cả vùng Do-thái lẫn Palestina, và cũng đã có nhiều người nhận mình là môn sinh của Ngài. Lịch sử tính của Ngài đã được xác nhận bởi sử gia người Do-thái Flavius Josephus. Các Ki-tô hữu nguyên thủy đã trình bày Thánh Gio-an Tẩy Giả như là vị Ngôn Sứ cuối cùng của Cựu Ước, và là người dọn đường cho Chúa Giê-su Ki-tô. Vì thế, Ngài cũng còn được gọi là Gio-an Tiền Hô, tức vị tiền trạm của Chúa Ki-tô. Thánh Nhân không chỉ được tôn kính bởi Giáo hội Công giáo, nhưng còn được tôn kính bởi nhiều Giáo hội khác. Người Hồi giáo coi Thánh Gio-an Tẩy Giả là một trong ba vị Ngôn Sứ cuối cùng, trước Chúa Giê-su và Mohammmed.

Sứ vụ của Gioan Tẩy Giả: 1. Cha mẹ, họ hàng, và láng giềng đều nhận ra bàn tay Thiên Chúa trong cuộc đời Gioan ngay từ đầu: Trình thuật kể: ''Láng giềng ai nấy đều kinh sợ. Các sự việc ấy được đồn ra khắp miền núi Judah. Ai nghe cũng để tâm suy nghĩ và tự hỏi: "Đứa trẻ này rồi ra sẽ thế nào đây?" Vì quả thật, có bàn tay Chúa phù hộ em. Cậu bé càng lớn lên thì tinh thần càng vững mạnh. Cậu sống trong hoang địa cho đến ngày ra mắt dân Israel.''

2. Gioan chuẩn bị tâm hồn dân và chỉ cho mọi người đến với Đức Kitô: Chúng ta có thể học hỏi ít là 4 điều từ Gioan Tẩy Giả: Thứ nhất, ông sẵn sàng hy sinh mọi thú vui thế gian để chu toàn sứ vụ của mình: ông sống trong sa mạc, mặc áo da thú, ăn chấu chấu và mật ong rừng. Thứ hai, ông chuẩn bị tâm hồn cho dân đón nhận Đấng Cứu Thế bằng cách rao giảng để dân ăn năn thống hối trước khi ông làm phép rửa cho họ. Thứ ba, ông sống rất thành thực và không vị nể bất cứ người nào: khi được hỏi ông có phải là Đấng Thiên Sai, ông trả lời ông chỉ là tiếng người hô trong sa mạc, và ông không xứng đáng cởi quai dép cho Đấng Thiên Sai. Sau cùng, ông sẵn sàng đổ máu làm chứng cho sự thật. Ông bị vua Herode chém đầu vì ông dám ngăn cản cuộc hôn nhân bất hợp pháp của Nhà Vua. ÁP DỤNG TRONG CUỘC SỐNG: - Mọi người chúng ta đều được Thiên Chúa cho vào đời với một sứ vụ; chứ không tình cờ xuất hiện hay chỉ để ăn uống, hưởng thụ. Sứ vụ của chúng ta là làm sao giúp cho mọi người nhận ra tình yêu và đạt được ơn cứu độ của Thiên Chúa. - Chúng ta đều có bổn phận như Gioan là dọn tâm hồn và chỉ đường cho mọi người đến với Đức Kitô; chứ không hướng mọi người vào chúng ta, hay vào bất kỳ một nhân vật nào khác. - Để hoàn thành điều này, chúng ta chắc chắn phải chịu nhiều đau khổ, như Đức Kitô và Gioan Tẩy Giả đã trải qua.
