Women’s Guild Book Review Tuesday, Jan. 22nd

Pat Wiegmann will review a mystery “S ll Life”, by Louise Pen-ney. The story takes place in a hamlet called Three Pines in Montreal, where Chief Inspector, Armand Gamache, of the Surete du Quebec is called to the village to solve a murder.

Join us for a light lunch at 12:30 pm. The book review begins at 1:00 pm. The cost is $5.00. For more infor-ma on, call Jan Catalono, 376-3653, or Pat Wiegmann, 376-6088.

Christmas Time and Easter Time highlight the central mysteries of the Paschal Mystery, namely, the incarna-on, death on the cross, resurrec on, and ascension of Jesus Christ, and the descent of the Holy Spirit at

Pentecost. The Sundays and weeks of Ordinary Time, on the other hand, take us through the life of Christ. This is the me of conversion. This is living the life of Christ.

Ordinary Time is a me for growth and matura on, a me in which the mystery of Christ is called to pene-trate ever more deeply into history un l all things are finally caught up in Christ. The goal, toward which all of history is directed, is represented by the final Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.

Bap sm of the Lord

As we celebrate the Bap sm of the Lord, we also hon-or our own bap sm as our ini a on into the Chris an

life and community. In the Gospel, the bap sm of Jesus, with his immersion and then emergence from

the water, points to his later submission to God at his death, and his emergence from the grave at his

resurrec on. This pa ern of death and resurrec on is our path too, as followers of Jesus. Throughout life,

o en in small ways, we learn to surrender our limited and self-centered agendas. This surrender o en feels like death. The sacrament of Bap sm ritually enacts this pa ern to remind us of Jesus ’ death and resur-rec on, so that we, too, might embrace the deaths

and resurrec ons of our own lives. As Jesus emerged from the water, he encountered his Father and the Holy Spirit. Like Jesus, we can know we are God's

beloved, empowered by the Spirit.
