A Family Perspective by Bud Ozar: Today’s gospel challenges us to be a ‘light’ to our family. Parents shine their guiding light, not in front but behind them, inviting their children to follow their ‘good deeds.’
February 8: International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking - Catholics all over the world are encouraged to host or participate in prayer services to create greater
awareness about human trafficking. Through prayer, we not only reflect on the experiences of those that have suffered through this affront to human dignity, but also comfort, strengthen, and help empower survivors. February 8 is the feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita, who was kidnapped as a child and sold into slavery in Sudan and Italy. Once Josephine was freed, she became a Canossian nun and dedicated her life to sharing her testament of deliverance from slavery and comforting the poor and suffering. She was declared a Saint in 2000.

Loving God, Raise up dedicated leaders who will shepherd your people and guide them to your Son. Give generous and willing hearts to the seminarians of our Diocese who have heard your call to live a life of service to the Church. Help us to encourage and support them as they strive to become priests who are models of discipleship, possessors of wisdom and on fire with love for your people. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
