A Family Perspective by Bud Ozar: Today’s gospel challenges us to be a ‘light’ to our family. Parents shine their guiding light, not in front but behind them, inviting their children to follow their ‘good deeds.’

February 8: International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking - Catholics all over the world are encouraged to host or participate in prayer services to create greater

awareness about human trafficking. Through prayer, we not only reflect on the experiences of those that have suffered through this affront to human dignity, but also comfort, strengthen, and help empower survivors. February 8 is the feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita, who was kidnapped as a child and sold into slavery in Sudan and Italy. Once Josephine was freed, she became a Canossian nun and dedicated her life to sharing her testament of deliverance from slavery and comforting the poor and suffering. She was declared a Saint in 2000.

Dear Parishioners, Project Rachel is in need of Prayer Shawls for the participants of the next retreat that is taking place the weekend of February 24th. If you or someone you know would like to make a

Prayer Shawl for the retreat you or if you have any questions, contact Bobbi Stratton at 231-854-2714 (home), 231-638-3433 or [email protected].

Post Abortion Healing - If you are struggling because of a past abortion or abortions, Project Rachel can help. Project Rachel, a program of Catholic Charities West Michigan, offers referrals to priests and counselors

specially training to help those who have experienced abortion. We also offer Rachel’s Vineyard Retreats. The retreat offers an opportunity to step away for a while and focus on healing, grieving and reconnecting with God. The retreats are open to both women and men. All calls and emails are kept in the strictest confidence. For more information contact Maggie at (800)-800-8284 (MI only) or 616-340-1824 or email [email protected].

you frustrated, hurt or angry with your spouse? Are you constantly fighting? Or, do you simply shut down? Does talking only make it worse? There are alternatives. Rediscover healing and love and find hope by attending Retrouvaille (pronounced re-tro-vi with a long i). The program offers tools needed to rediscover a loving marriage relationship. The next Retrouvaille weekend is Feb. 24-26, 2017. For more information, call 616.752.7004, email [email protected] or visit retrouvaille.org.

Give generous and willing hearts to the seminarians of our Diocese who have heard your call to live a life of service to the Church. Help us to encourage and support them as they strive to become priests who are models of discipleship, possessors of wisdom and on fire with love for your people. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
