ST. MARY’S HEALTH GUIDELINE Although occupancy restriction have been lifted and masks are not required when attending mass for those who are vaccinated as per the recent Governor’s Ex-ecutive Order, Fr. Jorge has decided that the church will continue social distancing at this time. Since we want our church open to all and vaccination is a per-sonal choice, masks will still be required when at-tending mass. For the wellbeing of all, PLEASE COMPLY! About How to Choose the Godparents On June 14, the Archdiocese of Mexico offered some tips on its Facebook page to help parents choose wisely who will assume the role of baptism godparents for their children. Before starting, it is important to know that the Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us in article 1255 that “in order for baptismal grace to develop, the help of parents is important. That is also the role of the godfather or godmother, who must be solid believers, capable and ready to help the newly baptized, child or adult, on their path of Christian life. " Here are the five tips:

1. They must know their mission as sponsors The Archdiocese pointed out those godparents "must be good Christians and be fully aware of the mission that the Church entrusts to them: to help parents in the formation of their chil-dren." Indeed, the Code of Canonical Rights states the following: “As far as possible, the person who is going to receive baptism should be given a godfather, whose function is to assist the adult being baptized in his Christian initiation, and, together with the parents, present the child who is going to be baptized. Receive baptism and ensure that afterwards he leads a Christian life congruent with baptism and faithfully fulfills the obli-gations inherent to it” (872).

2. Must be over 16 years old and should be married The Archdiocese recalled that godparents "must be over 16 years old" and recommended that "although they may be single, it is always convenient that they be married." In this regard, the Code of Canon Law indicates that it is necessary that the godfather or god-mother “has reached sixteen years of age, unless the diocesan Bishop establishes another age, or that, for just cause, the parish priest or minister consider an exception admissible.”(874). It also mentions in article 873 that the baptized person must have either "a single godfather or godmother, or one and one." This means that he cannot have two godparents of the same sex, but in case a maximum of two people are chosen, they must be a woman and a man. Sobre la Elección de los Padrinos El 14 de junio, la Arquidiócesis Primada de México ofreció en su página de Facebook algunos consejos para ayudar a los padres de familia a elegir con sabiduría a quienes asumirán la fun-ción de padrinos de bautizo de sus hijos. Antes de comenzar, es importante saber que el Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica nos dice en el artículo 1255 que “para que la gracia bautismal pueda desarrollarse es importante la ayuda de los padres. Ese es también el papel del padrino o de la madrina, que deben ser creyentes sóli-dos, capaces y prestos a ayudar al nuevo bautizado, niño o adulto, en su camino de la vida cristiana.” A continuación, presentamos los cincos consejos:

Deben conocer su misión como padrinos La Arquidiócesis señalo que los padrinos “deben ser buenos cristianos y tener conciencia ple-na de la misión que la Iglesia les encomienda: ayudar a los padres en la formación de los hi-jos”. En efecto, el código de Derechos Canónico señala lo siguiente: “En la medida de lo posible, a quien va a recibir el bautismo se le ha de dar un padrino, cuya función es asistir en su iniciación cristiana al adulto que se bautiza, y, juntamente con los pa-dres, presentar al niño que va a recibir el bautismo y procurar que después lleve una vida cris-tiana congruente con el bautismo y cumpla fielmente las obligaciones inherentes al mis-mo” (872).

Deben tener más de 16 años y conviene que estén casados La Arquidiócesis recordó que los padrinos “deben ser mayores de 16 años” y recomendó que “aunque pueden ser solteros, siempre resulta convienen que sean casados”. Al respecto, el Código de Derecho Canónico señala que es necesario que el padrino o madrina “haya cumplido dieciséis años, a no ser que el Obispo diocesano establezca otra edad, o que, por justa causa, el párroco o el ministro consideren admisible una excepción” (874). También menciona en el artículo 873 que el bautizado debe tener o bien “un solo padrino o una madrina, o uno y una.” Esto significa, que no puede tener dos padrinos del mismo sexo, sino que en caso se elijan a dos personas como máximo, estos deben ser mujer y hombre. Además, es importante destacar que en el artículo 874 se indica que los padrinos no pueden ser los mismos padres de la persona a ser bautizada. Continuara…
