ST. MARY STAR OF THE SEA BROOKLYN

Every summer our Bishop asks each

parish in the Diocese to host a Missionary for

an appeal. Next weekend, July 8th/9th …

The Most Rev. Bishop Niranjan Sualsingh will

be here to preach for his

Diocese in India. It’s a

great honor to have a

Bishop come speak with

us! You are always gener-

ous… if you will not be

here you can donate this

week by placing your do-

nation in an envelope marked “Missions”. A

little about the Bishop’s Diocese….

“Sambalpur diocese is in the state of

Orissa, the poorest State in India. It is in

the east of India nearer to Kolkata. Orissa

has become the synonym of Christian per-

secution. The fundamentalist groups have

made Orissa their primary field of commu-

nal atrocities against minority poor Chris-

tians, mostly Tribal and Scheduled Castes.

There are 60,000 Catholics in the diocese.

There are 65 diocesan priests, 40 religious

priests, and 135 religious sisters who work

in this mission diocese.

The faithful in the diocese of Sam-

balpur often face much persecution in the

name of religion. During this time of crisis

to the faith, the Sambalpur Mission is com-

mitted to strengthen the faith of these op-

pressed. The Sambalpur mission needs

your generosity to keep the flame of Chris-

tian faith burning and to educate children

in Christian faith. We thank and appreci-

ate your generous help and we pray for

God’s blessings upon you all.”

We will have a special 2nd col-lection after Holy Communion for Bishop Saulsingh’s Diocese in India!

Please remember that our summer

schedule goes into effect in July. We will not have the 9:30 Mass on Mondays during the summer. The 9:30 am Mass on Mon-

days will return the Monday after Labor

Day, September 11th.

In August the Rectory office will close

at 3:00 pm Monday - Thursday.

Thank you!

delay in registering your child for class size

THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

The Minister Schedule for

July up to September 3rd is now

available in the back of Church.

I have accommodated those

who informed me of their vacation

plans. If you are attending Mass and are not

scheduled to minister please step up and

assist. Thank you for your loyal Ministry

here and have a wonderful summer!

If you know of someone in our

Parish celebrating a birthday and you

would like to surprise them, we can

mention their name in our bulletin.

Please let us know at least two weeks in

advance.

THE RICHNESS OF LIFE IN CHRIST

Today we have the

beautiful story of the wom-

an promised a child, the

wonderful exhortation

about life in Christ, and a

powerful instruction from

Jesus. An embarrassment

of riches? Not if we take

Jesus' words about

"welcome" to heart. The many challenges and

blessings offered to us today by Elisha, Paul,

and Jesus should be cause for rejoicing, and

welcomed heartily into our lives. And, like the

great treat that they are, they should be en-

joyed and shared generously with others.

Today's reading from Romans was chosen

very early in the liturgical life of the Church to

be the sole apostolic instruction received by

candidates for baptism at the Easter Vigil. This

illustrates its importance as a core belief, and

as a means of comprehending the story of the

Resurrection. Christ's resurrection is not mere-

ly a story about something that he underwent

once upon a time, but it is our story, the story

of how we joined the other members of the one

Body of Christ, the church. We were not only

dead, but we were buried; not ultimately bur-

ied, but raised to eternal life with Christ.

The collection for the weekend of June 24th/25th

was…

$2,303.00

$317 of this was back envelopes! Please help us average at least $2,300 by bringing in your back envelopes or by offering your

donations before going on vacation.

Thank you!

Please take a flyer for information about

St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Academy.

A great school for your children!

** WE HAVE MADE & PASSED OUR GOAL! **

I thank all the parishioners who

stood up and joined with us to make our

goal! You will be acknowledged in the

Bulletin on the announcement board in

the back of Church this August!

Last year, 73 Parishioners/families

pledged $303,860 in the Generations of Faith

Campaign (GoF). We have the beautiful new marble floor in our Sanctuary be-cause of their generosity! Several other

projects will be done due to the dedication of

those who pledged & donated in the GoF!

Non-Catholics are invited to join us in prayer. We kindly remind

them not to come forward to receive Holy Communion.

Catholics who are new to our Parish are asked to please introduce themselves to

Fr. Chris after Mass. Registration may be done at the rectory during office hours or by dropping the parish membership form in the collection basket. “Active” parishioners are

those who are registered, join us regularly for the celebration of the Mass and use the

weekly donation envelopes. Only in this way can we issue documents attesting

to Parish Membership and Catholic practice.
