Serving the people of
South Brooklyn Since 1851
Our Mission: We, the faithful of St. Mary Star of the Sea, joy-fully continue the mission begun in 1851. We share in Christ’s ministry by proclaiming the Gospel in our thoughts, words, and deeds… seeking to spread the Good News of salvation under the loving care of our Blessed Mother. Since we live in challenging times of new possibilities, we as stewards pledge to strive to provide for the spiritual and temporal needs of our people. As the stars guide the ships at sea, we seek to be a welcoming beacon of prayer and community to all who come… that they find a home for their hearts and comfort for their souls.

INVITED
The Good News is that we have all been invit-ed—invited to the Kingdom, invited to be disciples. It’s a life-changing invitation, and like so many
other such invitations, it requires a great deal of deliberation and discern-ment. Whether we choose marriage, or-dination, single life, or community life, we know the serious planning and con-sideration that accompany these pro-found decisions. Like the tower-builder in the Gospel, we have weighed both the monetary and emotional cost. We have pondered and planned our lives in the direction to which we believe God has called us. And while we pray for guidance and acceptance of God’s will, we often fail to understand so much. Like Solomon, we turn to God for wis-dom and counsel in our life-changing decisions.
Perpetual Candles Due to the extreme heat, humidity and temperature changes some candles may be turning off and then on again as the wax contracts. They are all working at the time of this bulletin submission. When the weather stabilizes, if there is still a problem, I will call our Candle Company who is based in Florida and they will replace them. Thank you for your patience. If you are interested in a candle for your loved one to honor and remember them, please call Debbie or stop into the rectory. Thank you!
Non-Catholics are invited to join us in prayer. We kindly remind them not to come
forward to receive Holy Communion. Catholics who are new to our Parish are
asked to please introduce themselves to Fr. Chris after Mass. Registration may be done
at the rectory during office hours or by dropping the parish membership form in the collection basket. “Active” parishioners are those who are registered, join us regularly for the celebration of the Mass and use the
weekly donation envelopes. Only in this way can we issue
documents attesting to Parish Membership and Catholic practice.
