Baptism: We joyfully welcome to God’s holy family Everett Andrew Guthrie, son of Ted and Mindy Guthrie,

who was baptized at St. Mary Church, Bloomington.

Sharing Our Blessings Thank you to everyone who supports our parishes with their time, talents and financial support! May God continue to bless you for your generosity and kindness. Please pray for the financial health of our parishes and that all members will gener-ously share the many blessings that God has given them with our parishes.

Fr. John’s Notes Easter Sunday Today we unite with faith communities large and small around the globe to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The paschal candle burns brightly in our midst as we listen to the great good news of the Resurrection, renew our baptismal promises, and gather around the Eucharistic table to consume the Body and Blood of the risen Christ. Let us share the news with the world: Christ is risen! Alleluia!

Spring is Coming and I know it’s EASTER We have been patiently waiting, and it looks like warmer weather is here to stay. Unfortunately, sometimes we are fooled about the coming of spring. Nevertheless, Easter Sunday comes faith-fully every year. But, I am skeptical that we truly

believe in and trust that the Resurrection of Jesus happened and that we share in that resurrected life of Christ. It really takes faith and hope to believe that Christ is risen. Those are gifts of God. These gifts need to grow and they need be nurtured just like the seeds and plants we put in our fields and gardens. That is what the weeks of Easter, the words of the Bible, and the Sacraments of Confession and Communion can do for us. They help our faith, hope, and love to grow. On this glorious Easter Sunday, we know that Christ is risen, truly risen! So let us celebrate with joy this wonderful event that changed human history and has the power to transform our lives every day. Have a happy and blessed Easter!

First Holy Communion St. Mary’s second graders will celebrate their First Holy Communion at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 23, at St. Mary Church, Bloomington. The

second graders from St. Charles School and religious education program will receive their First Holy Communion at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 30. Please keep them in your prayers as they prepare to receive this beautiful and important sacrament. We are very grateful to the parents of our second graders for following through with the promises they made at their child’s baptism to bring them up in the practice of the faith. May God continue to bless them as they teach their child about Christ’s love and presence in the Eucharist.

Rice Bowls: Small sacrifices really do add up. Operation Rice Bowl helps to fight global hunger and poverty, but

also helps on the local level as well. In giving up something to be able to help others, people are joined in solidarity with others. Learning about global hunger helps us to transform the world. Please turn in your rice bowl donations in the box in the back of church, at school, or you can mail in a check. Please mark all envelopes “Rice Bowl.” We will send the donations to the diocese to ensure that 25 percent of the donations will stay local and support St. John’s Food Pantry.

Fish Fry Thank You’s Thank you to everyone who attended the Fish Fry and all who helped to make it a great parish event.

Repair Work for St. Charles Church Before we start to repair and redecorate the interior of St. Charles Church, we needed to address a few areas on the church roof. We have already completed brick and flashing repairs on the church. However, during severe rain and wind storms small amounts of water has leaked into the church from the center peak. This has caused the paint on the church ceiling to peal. In order to prevent additional water damage, Jackson Tuckpointing from Dubuque, IA installed a better ridge cap along the whole roof ridgeline of the church. We are very thankful that a generous parish member donated $4,000.00 toward the $8,000.00 cost of the project. St. Charles capital fund is depleted from other projects, so contributions toward this project are greatly appreciated.

Prayer Chain Please contact Patty Okey 725-2147 or Verna Mergen 794-2530 if you have someone to add to the Prayer Chain. Reflection “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” COLOSSIANS 3:2 Do you put God first in all things? Possessions, money, power, ego can easily become gods to many of us. Do a quick check of what is important to you. Is God at the very top of the list? If not, your priorities need to be re-adjusted. Don’t let earthly things become a god before God.

Easter Sunday April 16, 2017

Celebrate Life “Jesus, who upon entering into the world said: "I have come, O God, to do your will" (cf. Heb 10:9), made himself obedient to the Father in everything and, "having loved his

own who were in the world, he loved them to the end" (Jn 13:1), giving himself completely for them. He who had come "not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Mk 10:45), attains on the Cross the heights of love: "Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (Jn 15:13). And he died for us while we were yet sinners (cf. Rom 5:8). In this way Jesus proclaims that life finds its center, its meaning and its fulfillment when it is given up. At this point our meditation becomes praise and thanksgiving, and at the same time urges us to imitate Christ and follow in his footsteps (cf. 1 Pt 2:21). We too are called to give our lives for our brothers and sisters, and thus to realize in the fullness of truth the meaning and destiny of our existence.” - John Paul II (The Gospel of Life, n. 51)
