OUR MISSION STATEMENT
“We are a Eucharistic community forming faith-filled disciples of Jesus in loving service of God and neighbour
for salvation”
3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time—January 26—February 1, 2020
Presentation of our Lord—February 2—8, 2020
From the desk of Father Olivet:
I am Rev. Fr. Olivet Francis Ogochukwu Okoro. I was born on 20th January, 1959 in the Eastern part of Nigeria. I have four brothers and one sister. My parents are all deceased. I was ordained on the 14th of July, 1991 for Maiduguri, a Diocese in the Northern part of Nigeria. I came to Canada in March 2016. I arrived at the Diocese of London Ontario on 7th of January 2020, from Edmunston Diocese in New Brunswick where I served for two years and some months. The Diocese of Edmunston is a French speaking Diocese, but I worked with two other priests in the only English speaking area of eight small parishes. Thank you all for welcoming me into your wonderful family of Catholic Family of Parishes in Norfolk. God bless.
From the desk of Deacon Dave Callaghan:
Do you ever wonder why we spend so much time worrying about things we have no control over? Whether, it’s about getting somewhere on time, without speeding, trying to get a job done before someone finds out it’s late or even a simple matter of taking care of last minute details before a trip. Some will say that all of these things may not be in our control, but I’d like to think if we spent just a little more time focusing on organizing our time, things might be, different.
Obviously, I am speaking from my own experience, just ask Sandra, because, I know that my life is a work in progress. But, I am also, coming to understand that, by, contemplating what I am a part of through my own Baptism, things, could definitely, work out differently, maybe even, fall, into place. Because, as part of the body of Christ, I have at my disposal, as we all do, the collective love and strength of the entire, body of Christ, which we are all part of. We need to remember that, things may not be quite the way we, envisioned, but, we need to be patient for, God’s will and timing, in our lives, to come into focus.
Just imagine if you will, letting go and letting God, for everything, from our, daily tasks, to the bigger things in life, like decisions about a family, being married or single, whether, to take that new job. By allowing God to have full control we allow ourselves, to be present to enjoy each and every moment of every day. However, I’m not naive enough to think life will become a bed of roses, because, in life there are challenges that we face every day from temptation to greed along with a myriad of other sins we need to work at avoiding. But, even in the face of adversity, when we turn to God, things will have a habit of working out, knowing it is His will not ours, at play. So, the next time you have a problem to work through or a big decision to come to terms with, let go and let God, take it to prayer and embrace your place in the Body of Christ. You might be surprised by the outcome.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL UPDATE--SIMCOE/WATERFORD/ DELHI
During the past month, we were asked to supply groceries in the Simcoe/Waterford/Delhi area to 54 families, having a total of 154 adults and children. The Soup Kitchen which operates 3 days per week served an average of 51 people each day and as the weather gets colder this number is sure to rise. Deacon Gerard and family also hosted a Christmas dinner in the Knights of Columbus hall for 40 individuals who otherwise would have had nowhere to go for a wonderful meal on that Blessed day. We wish to thank the parishioners for the great support with our Christmas Hamper activities. We also thank the students, staff and parents of Holy Trinity High School, St Joseph’s in Simcoe, St Bernard’s in Waterford, St Michael’s in Walsh, St Frances Cabrini in Delhi and Ecole Ste Marie in Simcoe for their help in preparing the 56 Christmas hampers and for their donations from food drives. This year, we were blessed to once again, receive a large donation of food and funds from the company, union and employees of Essex Wire in Simcoe. This corporation joins the many others that have assisted us in our mission to assist our “Neighbours In Need” throughout Norfolk in the past year Then, to top off a great year, The Simcoe Portuguese Community donated $2000.00 to assist with our mission to help those less fortunate in the area. Norfolk is such a great place, in which to live. Our members will be available after Mass on February 1st & 2nd to receive your kind donations. Please give your name and address if you wish a year end income tax receipt. We thank you for your continued financial support and ask that you pray for an increase in the number volunteers to St. Vincent de Paul and for those we serve.
