Parish Mission Statement
The Parish of St. Mary, Cause of Our Joy, inspired by Mary’s “Yes” and led by the Holy Spirit,
strives to be a faith-filled community, joyfully welcoming all to witness and to celebrate the Gospel.
Our Mission and Vision
Welcome to Awaken! Our hope through this ministry is simply to bring people
into an experiential encounter with Jesus Christ, such that they would be so
touched by God’s real presence, they would be compelled to go out and share
the Good News with others! We are a grass roots ministry and are not affiliated
with any particular parish. We are simply a small group of faithful lay Catholics
who love the Lord and the Catholic Church, and have a desire to respond to the
call of The New Evangelization.
Awaken Ministry is a monthly outreach currently hosted by various Catholic
parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit, MI. The basic format of an experience is
three-fold: praise and worship, the preached Gospel, and Eucharistic Adoration.
Each event begins with upbeat praise and worship music lead by our band and
worship leaders, followed by dynamic preaching of the Gospel message, and
culminating with a profound experience of Eucharistic Adoration, which is ac-
companied by more praise and worship music and a time of silent adoration.
Key elements such as special lighting and sound, video screens displaying wor-
ship imagery and song lyrics, a creatively enhanced environment along with
contemporary praise and worship music, are all meant to foster and enhance the
worship experience. Following this time of praise, worship, prayer and adora-
tion, there is an opportunity for fellowship and hospitality, where those in at-
tendance can share with one another about what they have just experienced.
The mission of Awaken Ministry is born out of words spoken in 1983 by
Blessed Pope John Paul II, when while addressing the Latin American Bishops,
he said, “The New Evangelization is meant to be new in it’s ardor, new in its
methods, and new in it's expression,” and later in his encyclical, Ecclesia de
Eucharistia, when he called the Church to “cultivate a lively awareness of
Christ’s Faith In Christ Today And At the Beginning Of The Church 6/17/2019
About https://awakenministry.org/about.html 3/3 real presence, both in the cele-
bration of Mass and in the worship of the Eucharist outside Mass; specifically
with respect to Eucharistic Adoration, he wrote…“The worship of the Eucharist
outside of the Mass is of inestimable value for the life of the Church.”
Through much prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit, Awaken Ministry has
been born. May God continue to guide and direct us each and every step of the
way, and may everything we do be for the greater honor, glory and praise of our
Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! In HIS love and service unto eternity,

BULLETIN SICK LIST
We will be updating our prayer list. In order to keep our bulletin list current, we will begin
a new list on the weekend of September 21/22. Please call the office at 734-425-4421 if you
wish to keep a loved one listed. Thank you!
"He who has ears to hear, let him hear" Matthew 11:15. Over the last
few months we have realized that we have had a problem with our
sound system. So it might be our fault if you didn’t hear something. A
number of people have talked to me about this, so I am assuming that
there are others of you in the pew that have had the same problem, but
have not said anything. I want to assure you that we are aware of the
problem, and we are working to fix it.
Some of the things that we could try will cost considerable money, so first we wanted
to try a few free, or at least cheap, changes to the system and worship space to see if it
would help. The most noticeable thing for most people is that we are shutting off the
baptismal font during Mass, but there are other things that we are working on. Early
feedback about these changes has been very positive. Please let us know if any of
these changes have been helping. We are dedicated to fixing this problem, and your
feedback if important.

ST. PAUL OF THE CROSS
RETREATS
This is just about the final reminder to men of our parish to register for the weekend
retreat at St. Paul of the Cross Retreat Center, Detroit. Our retreat will begin with
dinner on Friday, September 27, and conclude following Mass, about noon
on Sunday, September 29. What happens during the weekend? You will
be comfortably housed in your own private room, complete with full bathroom and
shower. You will enjoy 5 delicious, professionally prepared meals. You will enjoy
the friendship of not only men from our parish, but from some other parishes as well
(the Center accommodates 85 people). Most importantly you participate in Mass
(daily), opportunity for reconciliation, and hear some spiritually enlightening and
inspiring talks provided by the Passionist retreat team. No, there is not a bus trip, a
ball game, a poker tournament, or a committee meeting, just a spiritual weekend with
the opportunity to grow in the love of God. A $30 registration fee assures you of a
room. Register now at 313-286-2801 or online at stpaulretreat.org.
Women of our parish will attend similar retreat on October 25-27 or November 8-
10. Janet Carrier (734-765-5675), Marlene Chwalek, Katie Bohr and Paula Montagna
(734-395-0283) are parish contacts for the women. If above dates do not fit your
schedule, optional dates are available. Simply phone the Retreat Center. Will we see
YOU there?
