The Most Holy Trinity May 27, 2018

In this bulletin you will see an invitation to join with members of St. Andrew Parish and the Turkish-American Society to celebrate an Iftar Dinner at St. Andrew’s on Tuesday, June 12, at 7:30 pm. This meal is part of the tradition that Muslims hold sacred during the month of Ramadan. Ramadan is a month dedicated to fasting during daylight hours, from sunrise to sunset. This allows for the commemoration of the revelation of the Quran to the prophet

Mohammed. It is a time of fasting to increase self-discipline and is accompanied by increased prayer and charity (Gee, sounds familiar, doesn’t it? So close to our own Season of Lent).

At this gathering at St. Andrew we will have the opportunity to meet those of the Muslim faith, learn a little more about their faith, pray along with them to the God we all worship and share a meal prepared by our new friends according to their venerable traditions. I’m looking forward to it and I hope you will join me.

An unknown person said, “Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it. It flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it.” As we celebrate Memorial Day tomorrow we again thank God for the heroic men and women who have served our nation and preserved our freedom. We honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives, but we also remember all who have served in our military. How blessed we are to be able to gather in a church to pray, or to practice different faiths, or to join with family for wonderful meals, or to travel to spots where we can enjoy the beauty of God’s creation while on vacation. All this is possible for us Americans because some of our citizens were willing to die on our behalf. Let us thank God for these people who imitated Jesus Christ and the martyrs of our Church. Our Savior, our saints and our heroes died to help us. For them, we praise God.

Please keep in your prayers the priests ordained yesterday for our archdiocese, Fr. Gerson Parra and Fr. Christopher Rubie. While wishing we had more, we should be grateful for those two men willing to answer God’s call to the priesthood. Next year we will have more as seven men should be ordained in 2019. As you know, the demands on our priests keep increasing as our number decreases. Keep up those prayers for an increase in priestly and religious vocations and encourage your relatives and friends to open themselves to the will of God in their lives. Fr. Vitali and I will testify always that the priesthood is a wonderful life. Pray that more will be willing to join us.

May God bless you always. Father Hambrough

St. Mark Calendar Night Thursday, June 14 from 5:00—6:30 pm

We ask that a representative from each St. Mark organization/group be at the Parish Office on June 14th to mark the calendar for the coming year. This evening is designed to avoid any conflicts for meetings or events that take place in any building on our campus; Parish Center, Parish Office, church, school and cafeteria.

There is a promise of marriage between Brent James Wildhaber and Christy Marie Capkovic.

On Saturday, June 2, St. Mark’s own Richard Rosenkoetter will be ordained by Archbishop Carlson to the Order of

Deacon. The next Sunday, our new deacon will proclaim the Gospel and assist at the altar for the first time at the 11:00 Mass. Know that you are invited to join Deacon Rosenkoetter and his family and friends at the Mass and the reception which will follow in the Parish Center.

Please note that only one Mass will be offered tomorrow morning,

Monday, May 28, Memorial Day. Mass begins at 9:00.

All parishioners are encouraged to begin the holiday by praising God

and sharing in the sacred meal of the Eucharist.

Parishioners should also note that there will not be a scheduled Mass from Monday, June 4, to

Friday, June 8, inclusive. A Communion Service will take place

on those days at 7:30 am.

Checking in Parishioners for Photo Sessions

We need you! If you have a few hours to spare and would like the opportunity to get to know more of our parishioners, consider volunteering to help check people in for their photo session for our new pictorial directory. We have many times open during the week from 2:00-9:00 pm and on Saturdays from 10:00-4:30 pm. Give Diane a call at the office, 743-8602, to sign up. Thank you for your help!
