BUILDING THE CHURCH IN MISSION LAND, USA
The work of the GLENMARY HOME MISSIONERS is the subject of the Mission Awareness presentation at St. Joseph on July 20 - 21. Brother Craig Digmann of the Glenmary Home Missioners will speak at our Masses, telling us about the missionary work his Society is doing in serving the spiritual and material needs of people right here in the United States! This collection for Glenmary Home Missioners marks the annual Mission Awareness presentation promoted by the Archdiocesan Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
Hundreds of U.S. counties do not have a resident priest, and in many of these counties the Catholic Church is not present. That means no celebration of the Eucharist, no sacraments, not even a parish community in which to find fellowship and support. Glenmary Home Missioners are working hard to fill the void—to bring the love of Jesus and His Church to the home missions in Appalachia and the South.
This is a wonderful opportunity for us to hear of the Glenmary apostolate in Appalachia and the South and to offer our prayers and financial support for their important ministry in the Church. Please be generous.

Event Managers Wanted As we move to a one Priest parish, St. Joseph is looking for volunteers to be Church Hall Event Managers. The Event Managers will take many of the duties the Priest performs when events are held in the church hall. Duties of an event manager include:
Arriving prior to an event being held in the church hall to unlock the church and greet those holding the event.
Being available during the event via phone or text for questions. Event managers do not need to stay at the church for the duration of the event.
At the end of the event, inspect the church hall to ensure it is cleaned and in proper order and lock up the church.
Church hall events are limited to 5 hours in duration. This position will pay $35 per event to the Event Manager. If you are interested in learning more about this new position, please contact Jake Weaver via email at: [email protected].
St. Joseph School is seeking an elementary classroom associate. If interested in the position, please email Casey Kettmann, principal, at: [email protected].

Farewell, Fr. Mark Kwenin—This weekend we honor and celebrate our
associate pastor, Fr. Mark Kwenin, as he prepares to leave us on July 9th for his
new assignment at Holy Spirit Parish, Dubuque, IA. Thank you, Fr. Mark, for
being a dedicated, faithful and excellent priest. With the heart of a pastor, you
have given us new spiritual insight, fed us with the Eucharist and sanctified us
with the other sacraments you have celebrated with us. You have visited the sick, comforted the
dying and buried the dead. We are grateful for your service, appreciate how, being from Africa, you
gave us a glimpse of the universality of the Church and we rejoice in the priest you are and have been
for us. May God bless and keep you as you depart from us to Dubuque. Don’t be a stranger. You are
always welcome here!
The Roof and its Estimated Cost—The rain hasn’t been our friend in terms of making the kind of
progress we would desire with the roof replacement. The crew is doing their best to work with the
elements and to shingle the church roof. Actually, two roofs comprise the roofing project, that of the
office and the church.
Some parishioners have asked about the cost of the roofing project. Right now, we estimate that the
price tag will be $ 130,000, which includes a five percent contingency. Recall that I indicated
previously how the parish will pay for the roof. At the conclusion of the roof study, the Finance
Council having discussed the recommendation, determined that because of the excellent stewardship
of past fiscal year budgets and savings that has accrued over the years, we have enough in savings to
pay for the roof and still have funds available should a “rainy day,” (pardon the pun!), come
along. We have also enjoyed the generosity of parishioners supporting the roof project, and welcome
any and all others who are so inclined to contribute to the project.
Please continue your prayers for the successful outcome of the roofing project and for the safety of the
workers.
“Lettering” of Vehicles During the 10:30 AM Sunday, June 23rd Mass—Occasionally, there are
people who canvass our parking lot, without notification or permission, and place anti-Catholic
literature on the windshields of parked vehicles. Such was the case this past Sunday. An envelope
containing an eight page unsigned letter refuting the Catholic Church and faith was placed on
windshields of vehicles in our parking lot. This has happened before. The letter basically presents
Reformation arguments refuting Catholicism. I’m sad this occurred because the person or people
never give us an opportunity to meet and dialogue with them. Rather they presented a “we’re right
and you’re wrong” perspective.
I view this unfortunate event as presenting an unanticipated opportunity by those disseminating this
type of literature. It offers us the chance to speak about the deeply held tenants of our faith. If anyone
has read the letter and has questions, please feel free to contact the parish office (377-4869) and we will
be pleased to speak with you about the matter.
