Pastor’s Notes Fourteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time
Dear Parish Family,
On Monday of this past week we sent an email out to inform you of the Bishop’s decision to send Fr. John Sollee to the University of Notre Dame to pursue a PhD in Sacred Theology. Fr. John has been a tremendous blessing to our Parish during his time here. From his gifted preaching, his work with the youth of the Parish and the School, his great leadership role in the Capital Campaign and interior Church renovation and the many, many more daily duties fulfilled by a Priest, he has truly left a substantial mark on the Parish. He will be greatly missed. I ask you to hold him up in prayer as he begins the rigors of advanced studies and prepares for his future work within the Church.
The weekend of July 25 and 26 will be the last weekend Masses that he will preside at and we are planning a recep-tion in the courtyard at the conclusion of the noon Mass on the 26th.
In addition to announcing the departure of Fr. John it was with great joy we shared the news that Fr. Briggs Hur-ley has been assigned to St. Joseph Church. Fr. Briggs will begin his assignment here on August 1 and comes to us from St. Michael Catholic Church in Fernandina Beach. Father Briggs completed his pre-theology requirements at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD, where he received a Master of Arts in Philosophical Studies in 2012 before heading to Rome for theological studies. During his years in the Eternal City, Father Briggs received a Baccalaureate of Sacred Theology (STB) and a Licentiate of Sacred Theology (STL) in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, as well as a Master’s in Augustinian Studies and Spirituality from the Institutum Patristicum Augustinianum. He was ordained a priest on 17 June 2017 at the Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Augustine and currently serves as Parochial Vicar of Saint Michael Catholic Church in Fernandina Beach, FL.
Please join me in prayer for Fr. Briggs as he begins his transition to St. Joseph. I know that your hospitality and openness will allow him to feel at home in just a brief span of time.
I want to thank all those who helped with the reception held last Sunday for Fr. Clay. I want to especially thank John and Jerri Safar and the Filipino Ministry for the wonderful food provided at the reception. Fr. Clay has been a much-welcome addition to our Pastoral team and we look forward to his presence here in the Parish through the end of September. I am happy to share with you that Father Dan Cody's health is continuing to improve on a slow and steady basis. His remains in the Kindred Hospital and his physical therapy is going well. He is still not accepting visitors but greatly appreciates your many prayers.
Thank you again for attending our Dream Event in February. As a follow-up to this great event, as part of our col-laboration as a Dynamic Parish, we invite you to participate in a 45-minute virtual event, "Unleash Your Power to Dream."
In times of crisis, it's helpful to look into the future and see one that is bigger, better, and brighter and then return to the present and do the things that make those dreams a reality. Now is a great time to dream - for our community, our Church, our parish of St. Joseph, and ourselves. Join Tony Ferraro for this virtual event, available now through July 15 at DynamicDreams.us.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Sebastian
