From the Principal’s desk…. Welcome back for Term 4. It is hard to believe how fast the year is moving along. I am sure
that Term 4 will prove to be exciting. We have many highlights to come including the
Sacrament of First Reconciliation, Year 5 Sydney excursion, P&F Melbourne Cup Trifecta
fundraiser, 2017 Kinder Orientations, Yea r 7 transition programs and many more. All of
the classrooms will be very active as we head towards end of year assessments and
reporting. It is going to be a great Term.
You will notice as you enter the school that there has been some new fencing erected
around the corner section of the pick up area. This should add to the safety of our
students. Please remember to drive safely in this area and ensure that all children enter
and exit the vehicles from the passenger side.
I will be away this week with Year 5 as they head off to Sydney for their excursion.
Highlights will be visiting Saint Mary McKillop
House, the Bush to Beach program and the
general fun of being away as a group. We will
all be back for Friday, as PSSA sport
commences for grades 4 – 6 this week.
As the weather is getting warmer please remember that all students need to wear their
school hat at all times when they are outside. Don’t forget to slip slop slap before coming
to school.
Gospel and Reflection: Luke 17:11-19
On the way to Jerusalem Jesus travelled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As
he entered one of the villages, ten lepers came to meet him. They stood some way off and
called to him, “Jesus! Master! Take pity on us.’
VISION STATEMENT
St John’s Primary School strives to foster a community of faith that is centred on the teachings of Christ, where love and
concern develops the whole child, empowering each individual to realize his/her potential.
When he saw them he said “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” Now as
they were going away they were cleansed. Finding himself cured, one of
them turned back praising God at the top of his voice and threw himself at
the feet of Jesus and thanked him. The man was a Samaritan. This made
Jesus say, “Were not all ten made clean? The other nine, where are they? It
seems that no one has come back to give praise to God, except this foreign-
er.” And he said to the man, “Stand up and go on your way. Your faith has
saved you.”
Reflection
The cured leper who turned back to Jesus did so “praising God at the top of his voice”. The other nine who were
cured may instead have rushed off to tell their family and friends about their miracles. As lepers they would have
been separated from their loved ones since the time the disease appeared, which must have been very hard to
bear. The “foreigner” may not have had any family or friends to go to with the news of the miracle, and thus
turned back to Jesus who had healed him.
Jesus was not looking for thanks from the nine. He wanted them to understand their healing as an experience of
the compassion and mercy of God. His focus was on the praise given to God by the Samaritan leper, not on the
thanks he, Jesus, was being offered.
When good things happen it is natural to want to share the experience and the joy with people we love. Such a
moment also presents a natural opportunity to lift heart and mind to God in the prayer of praise. Praising him
can happen in the short space before we are overwhelmed with the desire to share good news with people we
love, if praising God is a habit that we have cultivated in our daily lives as a form of prayer.
If praising God has become a habit in joyful moments it will eventually also become a prayer in times of
difficulty. It is a way of seeing the world that understands that “all things work together for good for those that
love God”.
Practise praise and God will do the rest.
God Bless and have a wonderful week. I will see you when we return from the excursion.

2016 Melbourne Cup Trifecta
Each year the Catholic Schools of Dubbo hold a Melbourne Cup Trifecta Fundraiser.
The Trifecta consists of 12,144 tickets that are sold at a cost of $2 per ticket. What does this mean for St John’s Primary. This year our school has been given the opportunity to sell the tickets. This allows our school to raise almost $17,000 after costs in 3 short weeks. In 2007, 2008 & 2009 St John’s were given this opportunity which assisted in the purchase of smart
boards for many of the classrooms and a cricket pitch.
1st
PRIZE $5000 Tickets will be sold at a cost of $2 each.
Each ticket has 3 horse numbers on it. If you have the ticket with the 3 numbers in the winning Melbourne Cup race order you would win $5000. If you have a ticket that has the 3 winning numbers but in a different
order you could win $50.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards a shelter over the playground equipment behind year 2 block.

DOUBLE PARKING IN SCHOOL ZONES CREATES DANGEROUS SITUATIONS
Dubbo Regional Council is reminding parents and carers to exercise caution and patience when dropping off or collecting
children from school as Term Four resumes this week.
Double parking in a school zone is extremely dangerous for any passenger alighting a vehicle let alone children who can
be difficult to see and whose movements can be unpredictable.
Parents and carers should take the time to find a legal and safe car park before letting children out of the vehicle and also
to remind children to exit the vehicle from the kerb side if parallel parked, not from the driver’s side.
Potential consequences of children getting out of cars amidst traffic is frightening, let alone children who are alighting
cars on the traffic side of a double-parked vehicle.
Illegal parking and/or stopping in school zones creates dangerous situations and brings with it some heavy fines as
follows:
No Stopping - means you cannot stop in this area for any reason - $325 fine plus 2 demerit points.
No Parking – means you can stop here for a maximum of two minutes to drop off or pick up passengers and you must
stay within three metres of your car at all times - $180 fine plus 2 demerit points.
Bus Zone – School Days – means you must not stop or park your vehicle in a designated school bus zone between 8.00
am and 9.30 am or between 2.30 pm and 4.00 pm - $325 fine plus 2 demerit points.
Stop on or near a pedestrian crossing (school zone) - $433 fine plus 2 demerit points.
Double parking (school zone) - $325 fine plus 2 demerit points.
Parking in a disabled zone without current mobility parking permit displayed - $541 plus 1 demerit point
