St. John’s Superstars

Competing in his first major tennis tournament at orange level, Jason Obiamime (F1)

finished first and won the county tournament, in Finchley, North London, on 29th

September 2013. Jason was playing some of the best 8/9 year olds David Lloyds has

produced. Jason won the tournament without losing a set. The next stage for Jason is

the David Lloyd regional tournament. A future Wimbledon star in the making!

DAVID LLOYD CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2013

CADET CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2013

In June, the School Football Squad will be travelling to Spain to help with

their football development. The Squad will take part in a Malaga CF Foot-

ball Development Programme and will train at the resort complex just

outside Marbella.

We will be staying at Atalaya Park Golf Hotel & Resort, which is located

in the very heart of the Costa del Sol of Andalucía, between Estepona and

Marbella, and right next to the sea. This beach resort complex has the

most comprehensive range of sports facilities on the Costa del Sol and

features; two 18-hole golf courses, 6 swimming pools, health club, 9 ten-

nis courts, nautical sports centre, 2 natural grass football pitches, beach

volleyball courts and golf driving range.

Many football teams including the Nigerian national team, Spanish Premier

Division Clubs and others from all over Europe have undertaken their pre

-season or mid-season training camp at Atalaya Park Golf Hotel & Resort.

In addition, during the day out to visit the home stadium of Malaga, coach-

ing sessions will be held at the old first team training pitch adjacent to the

stadium.

We hope this will help develop the boys Footballing skills and help lead

both the players and the school to future success!

Reece (F1) started Go-Karting at a young age; he has now been Go-Karting competi-

tively for 2 years and really enjoys it. Reece was introduced to karting when his father

took him to a race school where he learnt basic kart wheel control, he also went to

cadet club. When Reece was 8 years old he decided he wanted to try racing; he had to

pass a test known as the Arks Test to get his licence. This involved learning about safe-

ty on the track. What the various flags meant and how you would respond. Once

Reece had achieved this he was entered in the Cadet Club Championship. In his first

competition he came 8th out of 16 drivers. Reece realised how much he wanted to win.

He has now competed numerous times during the season, being on the podium in 8 of

them and 1st four times. These results led him to be the overall Champion of the sea-

son, 3 points ahead of 2nd place. One day Reece hopes to be a professional driver and

become a F1 driver.

This term in P.E. the pupils have carried out a

gymnastics scheme of work . By the end of the

scheme pupils aimed to create a 10 part sequence

including, individual balances, partner balances,

rolls, jumps and rotations. Pupils were assessed

against a criteria; the pupils needed to consider

their body tension, extension of limbs, fluency of

movement, atheistically pleasing movements and

timing when working with peers. Pupils demon-

strated their creative side, by planning and carry-

ing out their own ideas. At the end of the scheme

of work pupils performed their routines in front

of the class.

As a reward for all their hard work, the pupils

were treated to a session using apparatus such as

climbing bars, ropes, springboard and the vault.

During this session the pupils performed some

spectacular jumps and shapes.
