Collection for the Archdiocese for Military Services, USA

This week we will support our parishioners and their families who serve or have served this nation with distinction as members of the U.S. military. The Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA will provide the Gospel, the sacraments and other forms of spiritual support to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces wherever they serve and to veterans who are in VA Medical Centers. Please prayerfully consider a generous contribution to this special triennial collection approved by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in 2012 and last taken in 2013.

HVAC Update

Our HVAC fund is growing, but slowly. We have raised $481,428.40 in donations with outstanding pledges totaling an additional $36,299.17. Thank you to all the parishioners who have donated and all the ministries who have held fund-raising events for the HVAC. Your help has been vital in accomplishing this important project!

We will pray for our deceased family and friends during the month of November. You may add the names of your loved ones to the Book of Remembrance located in the back of the Church under the Pope Pius X statue. In addition, we will have a memorial table located by the baptismal font. We are asking that you send us the name of Mary the apparition of your country so we can share it with all of our community and recognize that even though we might call her by different names there is Only One Mary the Mother of our Savior Jesus Christ. On Saturday, November 19, 2016 our parish will be hosting the site for distributing the gift cards for the Goodfellow Christmas

program run by the Star Telegram and Catholic Charities. We will need volunteers to help check documents from each family looking for assistance and give the gift card to the family. We have two shifts available, 8:30 a.m. until noon and noon until 4:00 p.m. Brief training will be held before the shift starts. If you are interested please contact Lupe Hernandez at (817) 284-4811.

Are you available to help with our Angel Tree program? We will need volunteers during the day to create the angels, sort gifts and assist with the details of this program. If you are interested please contact Sue Deskeere at (817) 284-3288.

Scripture Reflection

In our first reading we hear of the seven brothers who were being put to death for their belief in God, and who were not afraid to die, for they knew that there was life “on the other side.”

Through the entire text of Luke’s gospel Jesus is journeying toward Jerusalem. He had lived His life preaching and teaching and now having arrived at the town that was the center of Jewish belief, and where the temple was located, will suffer and die.

The Sadducees, the priests of the Temple, whom Jesus criticized, were always trying to test Jesus. In this week’s Gospel they ask about the afterlife, trying to trick Jesus, as they did not believe in the possibility of resurrection. Here Jesus lets them (and us) know the wonders of the afterlife and that God is the God of the living.

Reflexiones de Escrituras

En la primera lectura escuchamos acerca de los siete hermanos que los estaban matando por su creencia en Dios, y que no tenían miedo de morir, porque sabían que había vida “al otro lado.”

A traves del texto completo del evangelio de Lucas Jesús está viajando hacia Jerusalén. Había vivido Su vida predicando y enseñando y al llegar al pueblo que era el centro de la creencia Judía, donde estaba localizado el templo, va a sufrir y morir.

Los Saduceos, los sacerdotes del Templo, a quienes criticaba Jesús, siempre trataban de probar a Jesús. En el Evangelio de esta semana preguntan sobre la vida eterna, tratando de hacerle una trampa a Jesús, ya que no creían en la posibilidad de la resurrección. Aquí Jesús les deja a ellos (y a nosotros) saber las maravillas de la vida eterna y que Dios es el Dios de los vivos.
