PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS To have a prayer added to St. John’s Prayer Chain, please call Shirley 715-384-3613 and Donna 715-384-2479 (there are 2 lists). If you wish to become a member of the prayer chain, please call Jane Gerend at 715-387-2019 or Ann Bohnert at 715-389-2726. The parish office will be closed on Monday, April 1st in observance of Easter. Stewardship Fair St. John’s will be hosting a stewardship fair after all Masses on April 13th and 14th in Schuh Hall. Have you been wondering how you can be more involved in your parish or what a certain ministry is about? The stewardship fair will give you the opportunity to see all the ministries our church provides as well as some community organizations. In this past year, St. John’s has added a few new ministries and even more are in the works. We are a vibrant parish with something to interest everyone. Many organizations are looking for new members. We invite you all to come down, enjoy some refreshments, have a look around, and hopefully sign up for something that interests you. See you there! CCD REMINDER: On Wednesday, April 3rd, there will be no CCD due to Spring break. Classes will resume on April 10th. Thank you to all who so generously donated to our St. Joseph’s Food Collection. You helped make Easter much nicer for a number of our families and also helped in filling the food pantry at St. Vincent de Paul with which they were able to help many more less fortunate families in our community. SVDP also thanks you for your generosity to those in need. May you and your family have a Blessed Easter and may God bless all those you love. The PCCW has decided to forgo sending letters pertaining to the April “No Bake-Bake Sale”. There is an envelope in your April packet of tithing envelopes for this fund raiser. This change is due to the increased cost in printing and postage. Proceeds will help fund the Altar supplies (ie. Wine, Hosts, Candles). Thank you in advance for your usual, generous support. Annual La Crosse Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) Low Sunday collection will be held the weekend of April 6th/7th. Ladies of the parish will collect a second collection at the end of all Masses. Proceeds will be used by the Diocese to fund spirituality days, leadership trainings and charitable works. HANDS A new group for people dealing with life without their spouse due to death, divorce, separation, or deployment will meet in the Columbia room on Tuesday, April 2nd beginning at 7:00pm. It will be a time for sharing, coping, caring, learning, and laughing. Questions? Call Richard at 715-996-1005 or Elaine at 715-384-9112. Women at the Well is a lay apostolate whose mission is to provide direction, hope and healing to women whose lives have taken a turn for reasons they may or may not understand and who, as a result, are experiencing emotional and/or spiritual distress. The goals of the ministry are to support women who are suffering by applying biblical and ecclesial principles to their lives and their situations through prayer and individual sharing with reliance on the Holy Spirit. All sessions and inquiries are 100% confidential. Questions? Please call: 715-305-2261. Toward the Altar of God: We invite you to look at the thermometer in the back of church to see how our campaign is going. We are grateful to all who have helped us thus far. We would like to see the thermometer completely red. Please send in your payments and/or pledge cards to make this happen. Diocesan Annual Appeal: We are still $5000.00 short of reaching our goal. We would greatly appreciate anyone who is willing and able to help us complete this appeal as soon as possible.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK Praised be Jesus Christ! The first time I ever received stitches was while I was a student in Italy. After playing in the annual “Spaghetti Bowl” flag football game, I was one of the walking wounded with a gash just above my eye. I went to one of the Roman hospitals and walked into the emergency room for treatment. The doctor was casually smoking a cigarette and asked me what I needed. After pointing to the obvious, he got his needle and thread and asked me very simply, “Sei pronto?” (i.e. “are you ready?”). I told him I was, but I guess I had hoped for some sort of pain killer before he started sewing me up. Boy, that really hurt and after receiving a few stitches I was reminded that free medicine may not be all that it’s cracked up to be (I distinctly remember thinking, “you get what you pay for”). Just the same, I think the doctor’s question is a timely one for us as we celebrate Easter today: are you ready? Of course today is Jesus’ triumph over sin and death and His victory can one day be ours if we choose to obey Him and serve Him. Just the same, the only way home is Our Lord’s via crucis. I remember a friend of mine once saying “everybody wants to go to Heaven, but nobody wants to die.” So true. Which brings us back to the doctor’s question: Are you ready? In other words, are you preparing to leave this world and live forever with God? Have you taken responsibility for the harm you’ve done and sought healing and reconciliation in confession? Are you actively working at becoming a better person (which is only possible by the grace God gives pre-eminently in the Sacraments)? Do you worship God every Sunday because He deserves our love and thanksgiving? Are you closer to God this Easter than you were a year ago? Or are you spiritually coasting and wondering what all the excitement is about? This much is certain, Easter reminds us that we will all “passover” from this world to the next and we have little say about when that day will come for us. “Are you ready?” I know that I am not, but by God’s grace I’m working at it and I hope that you are too. God put the timeless in our hearts long ago and that means we have a deep desire to live forever. Easter means we can, but death must come first. If you’ve been away for awhile, I hope you’ll join us every Sunday so that Christ’s Resurrection will give you hope and joy as we confront our own mortality. A very Blessed Easter to you and your family! Your friend in Christ, Father Martin

The dates are August 19th-30th and there is room for 50 pilgrims. I hope you'll consider joining us on an unforgettable journey to the land of countless saints. Update: This pilgrimage is now available to the general public but some spaces still remain available. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to grow in Faith together as a parish!

ANNOUNCEMENTS Divine Mercy Sunday: On April 30th, 2000 Pope John Paul ll canonized Sr. Faustina Kowalska and this officially designated the first Sunday after Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday. Christ the King Parish in Spencer will for the second consecutive year offer an opportunity to celebrate this wonderful feast by hosting a Divine Mercy celebration. The celebration will take place from 1:30 until 3:30pm on Sunday, April 7th. Information and materials about the origin and practice of “Divine Mercy” will be offered. Fr Samuel Martin and Fr. Jesse Burish will both be featured speakers during the event. Reconciliation will also be available as part of the plenary indulgence offered with the celebration of this event. Please plan on attending and celebrating with us. Questions can be directed to Judy Baumgarten at 715-659-5185 or to Rosie Frank at 715-387-6520. In the Columbus Program, athletes experience individual attention where everyone plays and everyone cheers. Information and registration is Sunday, April 14th, 2013 at 6:30pm in the Columbus Catholic High School cafeteria. If you have questions, or cannot make this time, please contact us at [email protected] Magic Paper Box Reminder: Only newspaper, including the glossy inserts, magazines, catalogs, greeting cards, office and school papers, window envelopes, paperback books, and items with staples or paper clips can go into the box. Please do not put in plastic, cardboard, metal, glass or paper contaminated with food

Prayer Corner: To encourage a deeper celebration of this Year of Faith, I will be running a different prayer in this corner each month. You're very welcome to cut it out and commit it to memory or just put it on your refrigerator or bathroom mirror. This idea surfaced from our education committee and I think it is a good one. Please pray for me while you're at it!

ACT OF HOPE O My God, relying on Your almighty power and infinite mercy and promises, I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of Your grace, and life everlasting through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.
