FORMATION OF A FAITH BASED BEREAVEMENT
MINISTRY For the broken hearted who are grieving the loss of a loved one, our faith offers hope. We are not meant to walk our journey of sorrow alone. Gathering together to support and comfort one another at a time of mourning is what Christ calls us to do. “Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4) If you would like to share your journey of grief and be-come involved in a Christian ministry to help others find healing and spiritual growth, please contact Laurie Jacob at [email protected] or call 339 222 0335.
ANNUAL SILVER AND GOLDEN
ANNIVERSARY MASS Cardinal Seán O'Malley invites all couples of the Arch-diocese of Boston who are marking their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries to attend the annual Silver and Golden Anniversary Mass and celebration. The Mass includes a renewal of marriage vows by all participating anniversary couples with all family members, friends, and guests welcome. Anniversary couples are asked to register; other guests do not need to do so. For more information, please visit bostoncatholic.org/weddinganniversarymass or contact Kelly Tolman at [email protected], 617-746-5803.
ARE YOU USING OUR ONLINE
AUTOMATED GIVING PROGRAM? Did you know you can set up a secure, automatic monthly contribution from a checking, savings, or credit card account to replace your weekly offerings? Weekly offertory collections are not consistent, a reflec-tion not only of economic factors but the variations in Mass attendance that occur with vacations, holidays, and other life events. An automated giving program will help provide the Parish with more consistent and stable contributions, which will enhance our ability to budget and manage our resources. To learn more, visit your Parish website.
FEAST DAY OF ST. THOMAS THE APOSTLE On July 3, the Church celebrates the feast day of St. Thomas the Apostle. Best known for his initial unwillingness to be-lieve the other apostles in their claim that Jesus had risen from the dead, St. Thomas can teach the faithful about be-lieving without seeing.
As an apostle, Thomas was dedicated to following the Lord. Upon hearing that Jesus was returning to Judea, an area that would pose dangers due to the growing animosity of the au-thorities there, he immediately said to the other apostles, "Let us also go, that we may die with him" (Jn 11: 16).
Yet despite this determination, Thomas proved not only too weak to stand beside Jesus as he faced his crucifixion, but also doubted the Lord's Resurrection when he was told about it by the other apostles. Denying their story, he told them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe" (Jn 20: 25).
A week later, Christ appeared and said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe." When Thomas did so he exclaimed, "My Lord and my God!"
In his general audience on September 27, 2006, Pope Bene-dict XVI spoke of St. Thomas, explaining that we can learn from his doubts, which show us "that Jesus can now be rec-ognized by his wounds rather than by his face."

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
REGISTRATION
Religious Education registration for 2018-2019 commenced in early March and was extended to June 30. Our online registration process can be accessed from the Religious Ed page of the Parish website found at www.stjohnwellesley.org/religious-education. Any registrations received from this point forward will incur the $25 per child late fee and Wednesday program registrations are not guaranteed (we will contact you if we cannot accommodate your Wednesday registration). Our calendar and information for the 2018-2019 program will be available in August.
PLEASE CONSIDER BEING A RELIGIOUS ED TEACHER
We once again find ourselves short teachers for our Religious Education program. You do not need any special skills or abilities, just the willingness to share your faith with the children of our parish. We provide materials and support to help you and are especially in need for help on Wednesday afternoons. Whether you are a parent, a grandparent, a high school or college student, or just a parishioner looking to encourage the youth of the parish in their faith, we want to talk to you. Please contact Linda Messore at [email protected] to set up a meeting to discuss options and opportunities. Thank you in advance for considering to volunteer.

Our Wednesday program is filling up – as of this date, Grade 3 Wednesday Session is full. Please register for other classes as soon as possible. If the class you select is full, we will notify you and offer alternatives that we hope will fit your schedule. Have a wonderful summer! Things you may need to know… FIRST COMMUNION PREP: Any child wishing to prepare for First Communion in grade two must have a year of religious education in grade one, or similar experience. CONFIRMATION PREP: Any young person wishing to be confirmed must have two years of high school religious education, which usually occurs in grades nine and ten. If you are a rising ninth or tenth grader, registering for the Confirmation program is important. All high school students are invited to participate in this program. Students who attend a Catholic High School do not have to attend the first year of Confirmation prep, but must attend the second year. FAMILY CLUSTER: For those who have a hard time making our scheduled classes, we offer a Family
Cluster curriculum that you can do at home with other families. This program is a wonderful solution for families who can’t attend our Wednesday or Sunday sessions. The program is not available for those preparing for First Communion or Confirmation. CLASSES: Grades 1 – 5 meet on either Sunday mornings from 10:15 – 11:15am or Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 – 3:00pm Grades 7 & 8 meet on Sunday evenings from 5:00 – 6:00pm (Oct – Dec) Confirmation meets on Sunday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00pm (Six classes per year plus Teen Masses). Grade 6 meets for Summer Blast or meets on during our Sunday morning session (Oct – Dec) REGISTRATION FOR FALL: Registration information has been sent to everyone who has been enrolled in our program. If you did not receive a registration, or are new to our program, please go online and fill out the online version. Questions??? Call Donna or Kathy at 781-235-5012 Email: [email protected]

COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND
The second collection this weekend is the special monthly for St. John and St. Paul Parish. Your generosity helps to support the programs and the outreach of our Collaborative. Thank you for your support of this important collection.
The Wellesley Food Pantry is very grateful for donations during the summer months. The summer months are challenging because the demand rises (as school lunch programs are on hiatus) and donations drop as more residents are away. This weekend (7/7 - 7/8) we will be collecting canned fruit and laundry detergent for the Wellesley Food Pantry. Your donations may be left in the bins at the front entrance of the church. Thank you for your help and concern. "A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor." Proverbs 22:9
