I look forward to welcoming everyone back for the start of Term 2 on Monday 30th April. Chris Lamb Principal

The Annunciation of the Lord celebrates the angel Gabriel's appearance to the Virgin Mary, announcing that she had been chosen to be the Mother of Our Lord. On Monday we celebrated the Annunciation with a whole school Mass.

How Is the Date of the Feast of the Annunciation Determined?

The Annunciation always falls on 25th March, exactly nine months before the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas. However, the celebration of the feast is transferred to a different date if it falls on a Sunday of Lent, during Holy Week, or during the octave of Easter.

According to the first chapter of Luke’s Gospel, Mary freely answered, “Here I am, the servant of the Lord”. Despite her puzzlement and confusion over the angel’s mysterious words, she trusted in God’s goodness. It is from this passage in the Bible and the ones that immediately follow it that our Catholic tradition was enriched through three famous prayers: The Hail Mary, The Angelus and The Magnificat. Lord, fill our hearts with your grace: once, through the message of an angel, you revealed to us the incarnation of your Son; now, through his suffering and death, lead us to the glory of his resurrection. Amen

YEAR 3 WAYANG KULIT (SHADOW PUPPET)

INCURSION In Indonesian this term, Year 3 students have been learning about Wayang (Indonesian puppet theatre) and how to ask and answer questions to get to know one another. Students created a wayang kulit (shadow puppet) which they then used for their wayang performance that show cased all of the language they had learnt throughout the term. Last Tuesday 4th April, 3P and 3J had a very exciting visit from the Indonesian Consulate. Pak Ari, Pak Tom and Ibu Aini came to St John Paul II to perform a traditional Wayang. Ibu B’s room was transformed with a stage, a spot light and gamelan instruments, and placed into semi darkness. The story performed was part of the Mahabrata (a traditional legend) where Laksmana goes on a journey to rescue his brother. The story was humorous and entertaining and gave students a fantastic insight into Indonesia’s rich and vibrant culture. “I really liked the traditional music” – Max and Ellie “I really liked the bit when the tiger went to eat Petruk and he did a pop off” – Oliver “I liked the bit when the tiger was fighting with the characters” - Taryn Ibu McAdam
