From Father Carl~ St. Monica, pray for us. St. Augustine, pray for us. This Thursday (27th) and Friday (28th), we celebrate the feasts of St. Monica and St. Augustine. These feasts are particularly relevant for our parish legacy. The parish was founded in 1953 with Reverend Thomas G. Delaney, OSA as the founding Pastor. And, August 28, 1955 the Church/School building was dedicated. (https://stgensparish.com/our-parish/our-history/) The Augustinian spirit of community, life as a journey/pilgrimage, practical love of neighbor, and constant pursuit of truth continue to underlie the St. Genevieve parish experience(https://www.augustinian.org/our-charism).Equally important is the spiritual legacy of a mother’s love and prayers as witnessed in the life of St. Monica. A shout out to all mothers, and those who have been like a mother, for their unconditional love and constant prayers. None of us achieves to where we are alone, we have inherited a family legacy, a spiritual legacy, and a community legacy. These feast days allow us to pause in gratitude for all we have received. These feast days allow us to acknowledge our legacies, how we live and tell our legacy stories, and what God is asking of us each moment as we hand on our legacies to the next generation. To all those men and women religious (the SSJ community has been here the entire time) who have shaped the St. Genevieve legacy – Thank You! For your sacrifice, blood, sweat and tears, and please continue to intercede for us.For all those who are sick, we offer St. Augustine’s prayer for the sick:Watch, O Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend your sick ones, O Lord Christ. Rest your weary ones. Bless your dying ones. Soothe your suffering ones. Pity your afflicted ones. Shield your joyous ones. And for all your love's sake. Amen. (https://www1.villanova.edu/villanova/mission/campusministry/RegularSpiritualPractices/resources/spirituality/restlesshearts/prayers.html#:~:text=Give%20me%20the%20strength%20to,first%20and%20heal%20the%20second.) Our legacy is one of service in the name of Jesus, so if you need us/me, we are only ever a phone call away. Be assured of my continued prayers and support for you and your loved ones. St. Genevieve pray for us! Carl (Reverend Carl Janicki)
AA Glance at the
Daily Mass Readings
Drawing upon St. Paul’s Second letter to the Thessalonians, Carroll Stuhmueller, C.P, offers us these reflective words which we can pray over this week: unless there is trust in God and in one another, no reasons will be sufficient. Unless there exists the basic attitude of faith that breathes an invisible atmosphere of compassion and sincerity, persons cannot see or hear the reality of life around them” (Carroll Stuhmueller, C.P., Biblical Meditations for Ordinary Time Weeks 10-22, pg. 221).
