Report from your Worthy Faithful Navigator:
Sir Knights,
Well June has arrived, and we are still in this lock down and doing our best to stay out of harm’s way. I
hope and pray that you and your families are all doing well. We are in difficult times and we need to
do our best to remain strong and be ready as this terrible virus passes.
As we do go through “re-opening” I see a different world. I think people will remain cautious and
maybe uncomfortable getting back into what we once saw as normal life. I do not know about you,
but I think crowds will be a scary place for a while and even meetings will be different. They will be
the opposite of what we are and what we stand for. Handshakes will no longer be the norm for
greeting Brothers and sitting close will be another challenge. I do not mean to send out a bad
message, but I believe things will take quite some time to return to what we remember as normal.
Even when the word comes that we can resume meetings how comfortable will you be to participate?
These are some of my concerns and hope and pray that they are all unfounded.
As I have mentioned before we are always looking for new members and our decision to pay first year
dues and costs associated with the exemplification stands. In the material I received from WM Rudy I
read details on a virtual exemplification that is scheduled to take place on June 20th. If anyone has a
person that wishes to take this exemplification is more than welcome to do so. Let me know and I will
give you all the information you need.
As you read in my last letter, I asked for the Sir Knights of the executive to let me know if they will
stay in place until we are able to hold a proper meeting and election. Unfortunately, I had very few
responses and one definite no. I convinced our Faithful Captain to stay on and I would stay until an
election. The sad thing is that with the lack of response and commitment and sadly lack of SK’s to take
on positions after June 30th our Assembly is in trouble. We will be OK until we hold a proper election
but at that time, we need some SK’s to step up to keep the Assembly active. If we do not have the
people to put into the key positions, we will have no choice but to put the Assembly on hold. We have
some especially important roles to fill and without SK’s in these positions the assembly cannot run.
I have enjoyed my time as Faithful Navigator, even with the uniform issue. What I enjoy the most
about the fourth degree and I have said this many times before is that we assemble with our Brothers
from St. Andre Basset Council in Wasaga. It is a great way to keep in touch with our Brothers from our
neighbor Council and keep in contact with many that once belonged to Council 5793. We must
remember that we are here for our Parish and need to try and remain a strong Assembly to serve our
Church. So my Brother Sir Knights now is the time more than ever to step up and let it be known that
you are willing to be a part of the executive and do your part to keep St. Francis Assembly strong.
Finally, and most importantly I want to say a big Thank You to our Former Faithful Navigator and
current Faithful Comptroller Michael Dynes. SK Michael has been a huge part of the success of this
Assembly and has gone above and beyond in keeping St. Francis Assembly strong. I cannot begin to
list all he has done for the Knights and the Church, but he is a true example of a Catholic gentleman
that has put in his all for the betterment of our Assembly. If we follow in the example, he has set our
Assembly and the future of the Knights will have no issues.
Fraternally,
Vivat Jesus,
Domenic Sanfilippo, Faithful Navigator

Faithful Comptroller and Assembly # 3495 Topics June 2020 Sentinel Newsletter
Sir Knights, what ever happened to “I want to Volunteer to assist Priest, Parish Parishioners and
Community”?
As a member of 4th degree I have served when called on, I have followed and been a leader. In both cases
doing the best I could for all. What I can’t accept is Supreme leaders that don’t follow what I believe in or
have promoted over these last 23 plus years as a member of 4th degree. I believe they are dictators and
thugs and lack our core values as Christians. Let’s look at that!
On line membership?? Exemplifications on Line?? What happened to Charity, Unity, Fraternity and
Patriotism?
Supreme has bullied there way though this change without input from membership or even with all the
hundred thousand complaints they failed to bend, correspond or even listen shame on them. One small
compromise could have made a world of difference Grandfather the Regalia. I could go into this a lot
more however it is my time to step away.
I want to thank all of you and to many other members of the 4th that are not part of our Assembly St
Francis 3495. I am not without fault for that I am sorry with that I am happy that many of you have kept
me a good member. I have enjoyed working with all of you especially our officers. You have a great
Assembly but beyond it we have no leadership or the will to be united in one goal. SERVICE.
This will be my last article for our newsletter as of June 30 2020. I will no longer be Faithful Comptroller
effective June 30, 2020.
These are my thoughts please share yours
Respectfully
Michael Dynes FC

JUNE
The Way of the Heart
We pray that all those who suffer may find their way in life, allowing themselves to be
touched by the Heart of Jesus.
This was the beginning of St Francis Assembly Collingwood.
Saint of the Month
Blessed Franz Jägerstätter feast day June 7
Called to serve his country as a Nazi solider, Franz eventually refused, and this husband and
father of three daughters—Rosalie, Marie and Aloisia—was executed because of it.
Born in St. Radegund, Austria, Franz lost his father during World War I and was adopted after
Heinrich Jaegerstaetter married Rosalia Huber. As a young man, he loved to ride his motorcycle
and was the natural leader of a gang whose members were arrested in 1934 for brawling. For
three years he worked in the mines in another city and then returned to St. Radegund, where he
became a farmer, married Franziska and lived his faith with quiet but intense conviction.
In 1938, he publicly opposed the German annexation, of Austria. The next year, he was drafted
into the Austrian army, trained for seven months and then received a deferment. In 1940, Franz
was called up again but allowed to return home at the request of the town’s mayor. He was in
active service between October 1940 and April 1941, but was again deferred. His pastor, other
priests, and the bishop of Linz urged him not to refuse to serve if drafted.
In February 1943, Franz was called up again and reported to army officials in Enns, Austria.
When he refused to take the oath of loyalty to Hitler, he was imprisoned in Linz.
During Holy Week Franz wrote to his wife: “Easter is coming and, if it should be God’s will that
we can never again in this world celebrate Easter together in our intimate family circle, we can
still look ahead in the happy confidence that, when the eternal Easter morning dawns, no one in
our family circle shall be missing—so we can then be permitted to rejoice together forever.” He
was transferred in May to a prison in Berlin.
Challenged by his attorney that other Catholics were serving in the army, Franz responded, “I
can only act on my own conscience. I do not judge anyone. I can only judge myself.” He
continued, “I have considered my family. I have prayed and put myself and my family in God’s
hands. I know that, if I do what I think God wants me to do, he will take care of my family.”
On August 8, 1943, Franz wrote to Fransizka: “Dear wife and mother, I thank you once more
from my heart for everything that you have done for me in my lifetime, for all the sacrifices that
you have borne for me. I beg you to forgive me if I have hurt or offended you, just as I have
forgiven everything…My heartfelt greetings for my dear children. I will surely beg the dear God,
if I am permitted to enter heaven soon, that he will set aside a little place in heaven for all of
you.”
Franz was beheaded and cremated the following day. In 1946, his ashes were reburied in St.
Radegund near a memorial inscribed with his name and the names of almost 60 village men who
died during their military service. He was beatified in Linz on October 26, 2007. His “spiritual
testament” is now in Rome’s St. Bartholomew Church as part of a shrine to 20th-century martyrs
for their faith.

Muldoon lived alone in the Irish countryside with only a pet dog for company. One day the dog died, and Muldoon went to the parish priest and asked, "Father, me dog is dead. Could ya' be saying' a mass for the poor creature?" Father Patrick replied, "I'm afraid not; we cannot have services for an animal in the church. But there are some Baptists down the lane, and there's no tellin' what they believe. Maybe they'll do something for the creature." Muldoon said, "I'll go right away Father. Do ya' think $5,000 is enough to donate to them for the service?" Father Patrick exclaimed, "Sweet Mary, Mother of Jesus! Why did ya' not tell me the dog was Catholic?
Sir Knights, the end of the Fraternal year is approaching. Our April meeting
(PENDING) will be looking for nominations for the next executive. Elections
will be held in May (PENDING). Please consider putting your name forward
for the next executive or stand if nominated. I have sent out a list of the
positions and what is involved. I am sure there will be openings, I for one will
be taking a step back so there will be a need for a Captain and someone to
look after the newsletter. Remember this is your Assembly and your
involvement and talent is needed to keep it going. There is also a need for new
members in the 4th degree, so if you know anyone from you home council who
you think would be interested ask them to join us.
Thank You
Bro. Frank
