Acts 6:1–7 1 Peter 2:4–9 John 14:1–12
A Word from your Pastor
There are so many things that I could write about today. This weekend once again brings us so much to reflect on and celebrate. The Acts of the Apostles presents the reading that we always here at a diaconate ordination. It tells us that the early church chose from among themselves, men of faith to serve at table especially to widows, to compliment the work of the church. And then there is that interesting line at the end of today’s first reading: “even a large group of priests were becoming obedient to the faith.” We all need that reminder but in the first century ‘priest’ was a title in the Jewish religion given to those who offered the sacrifices. And because there was no separation of church and state, the priests were also doing work for the Roman government. They were better off than most of their people and therefore had more to surrender to become a believer in Jesus. The Gospel message is one of assurance as Jesus is among His disciples encouraging them not to have troubled hearts and to know that He is with them. Again, another great line: “have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me?” We know that when we spend time with people we either develop trust in them or not. Most of us believe, in a good way, that we are who we are and that is usually authentically revealed. That is not to say that people can’t change but trust is still necessary. Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mothers! Mom’s significance in our lives has probably been a little more front and center these past months. For most, Mom might be one of the only people that physically touches you and offers the hug you might have needed for assurance. For many, we have been staying at home and making sure Mom does too. I know that we will be doing what we can to celebrate Mom today. May the presence of Mom in our lives bring us a frame of reference for how close our God and our Mother Mary desires to be close to us. May is also the month in which we turn our eyes to Mary, Our Lady, Our Queen. We will be doing what we can to pray through her for you and our parish community. Place a little for focus on the images of the Blessed Mother in your home. Pick some flowers to place before her. Commit to pray as a family. Start with the Rosary even if you don’t know all of the prayers by heart, start. May we grow stronger as a church and know the power of our Mother Mary because we have been shown such love on earth!
We place our trust in You! - Fr. Carroll

SACRAMENTS
Mass intentions are being honored while there is a suspension on all PUBLIC Masses. Fr. Carroll is celebrating the masses not at the scheduled time of the day but at some point in the day so that a crowd isn’t assembled. Know that the intention and all of you are being remembered during this time.
MASS INTENTIONS 5/2 — 5/10
In this time it is important that you know that the Church will do its best to respond to the pastoral and sacramental needs of its people. Out of concern for us all, we need to be mindful that we do not do things to encourage others to leave home. It is essential that our local church throughout the diocese work together in supporting a united effort. Any parish attempting to be ‘heroic’ will only draw more crowds than normal contradicting the mandates. We also have to be concerned about the dignity of the Sacraments. The sacrament of reconciliation and anointing can be available in danger of death or serious sin. Until the stay at home policies are lifted, the sacrament can not be offered. “Drive thru” or distance opportunities invite people out. Funerals will only be celebrated as a graveside service. A time of visitation and Memorial Mass can be celebrated at a later date. Weddings can not be celebrated at this time as a marriage license can not be obtained from the Clerk of Peace until the state of emergency is lifted. Baptisms - Baptisms will resume when we are in the church on Sundays.

MOTHERS... don’t be afraid to encourage service in your children. Mothers are often the main influence in a man’s discernment to the priesthood and mothers influence the attitudes of their children toward marriage.
CREATING A CULTURE OF VOCATION...
Things you could help us with… Do you have a firepit and can burn some church linens, books, palm to properly dispose of these blessed items? Contact Fr. Carroll for pick up. Are you a carpenter that needs a little work? The rectory front porch floor needs attention. Are you a painter that could use some work repairing and painting woodwork on the outside of the rectory? Do you live in the area and would be able to do some weeding, shrub removal or trim around the rectory? Are you a handyman who needs work? The powder room in the rectory needs a facelift - paint, floor and a little plumbing. Mindful that some may be out of work or less work. These are a few things we can help each other with. A note about spam emails again. Fr. Carroll is not, and will not be, sending you emails asking for gift cards or any emergency help. Unfortunately, people grab info from our website and create other email addresses to impersonate others in the organization. In most cases you can determine the authenticity of an email by looking carefully at the email address.

Sunday Gospel Activity
Today we celebrate the Fifth Sunday of Easter. Our Gospel is from John 14:1-12. In this weeks Gospel, Jesus speaks to His disciples about who
He is—and that He and God are one and the same. The disciples have a hard time understand-ing what Jesus means by all of this! Jesus sum-marizes for them: “I am the Way, the Truth and
the life. No one comes to the Father except through me!”
Many of us are familiar with this part of John’s Gospel;. But the next part is just as important!
Jesus continues, “If you know me, then you also know my Father. From now on, you do know
him and have seen him:!
What a wonderful message of hope and love! God has sent us Jesus in human form so that we might come to know and love our heavenly Fa-ther as He loves us! Jesus was sent to show us
how much we are loved and how willing God is to forgive us for all those things that might sepa-
rate us from Him (sins).
Jesus also establishes the sacraments of our church as a means for us to draw ever closer to Him, and by doing so draw closer to God. To know Jesus—to read his words in the Gospel,
to understand his life and his sacrifices for us—is to know and love God.

Church Roof/Ceiling Project update As you should have seen in the Triduum/Easter masses we were still under scaffolding. Hoping that in the time that we were unable to gather, the structure would be extended to paint the dome- again out of great generosity! This pandemic has effected us all but some more than others. Many are able to work while others are not. The scaffolding company lost work and laid off employees; they were unable to pay employees doing work that would not bring them income. The painting contractor, like many others, were unable to do interior work. The scaffolding crew has almost dismantled the scaffolding so that they could do work at another site. Unfortunately we will have to address the painting of the dome at another time. We are grateful for the enormous generosity that enabled us to do a $500,000 project for $91,000. We will soon see the reveal of the whole ceiling . I will do a virtual tour when all is clear. Our maintenance crew will now work on cleaning the church and perhaps stripping the floors of layers of wax and let the natural elements of the terrazzo shine. Thank you to all who made this project a success! Thank you for your stewardship and patience! As we will soon see ourselves on the other side of a leaking roof, damaged ceiling and the scaffolded church, may it bring us hope for the day when we are on the other side of this pandemic. Gratefully, Fr. Carroll
Living Stones
Almighty God, master builder,
your Son is the foundation of our lives.
If the world seems to crumble and fall,
keep us anchored in faith, hope, and love.
Smooth and polish our hearts
until they gleam
and radiate your glory dwelling within us.
Build us up in holiness,
and fit us together so securely
that evil cannot fracture us
nor pain and death break us.
Fashion others into living stones, too,
until all people are part of your house forever.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
