A Note From Mrs Van Dyk’s Desk Celebrate the fact that “you are Unique”.

Our Gr 4-7 Concert was amazing with a very important message which we need to

share with our girls . It is a message which we all need to remember.

The following extract taken from “Pathway to Success” by Lissy M has some

good ideas, which I hope you will discuss with your daughter, to remind her and

encourage her, to be the unique individual that God intended her to be !

Recognize and develop your gifts If you think you have no special gifts, perhaps you just haven’t learnt to recognize them.

Be open to new things , different opportunities.

Take stock of your strengths

Each of us is born with distinctive equipment-more than we learn to use; no person is

inferior to another…..

Every individual is gifted with a multitude of strengths and weaknesses.

Often we look so hard at our weaknesses that we miss seeing our

strengths. Try to identify your best traits

Maybe you have the knack of cheering people up or encouraging them by sympathetic

listening.

Build your self-confidence The next time you doubt your worth, remember that you have some awesome credentials.

God made you in His own image and He loves you.

Make the most of your gifts You are not a copy of anyone else. You are an original creation by the Master Artist-God.

You are his work of Art.

Bible Quiz 2016

Blanket Mass Our Blanket Mass was celebrated by Fr Mark James in the Jubilee Centre on

Thursday 26 May.

This Mass has in the past coincided with Ascension Thursday, but from this year,

this feast will be celebrated on the following Sunday. Fr Mark gave a thought-

provoking sermon and the girls’ singing and marimba-playing added beauty and

reverence to the service.

Our theme this year was “Collecting, having and keeping just what we need, and

not more” and our whole school united around this by donating a large number

blankets (many of them handmade), baby items and groceries to those who are in

need.

Thank you to all the girls and their families who contributed blankets, baby prod-

ucts, clothes, and food. At the recent Grade 11 Mass at the Cathedral, Bishop

Duncan made the point that every little thing that we do for others makes it a

happy day. The numerous blankets on display during the Mass was a demonstra-

tion of how much the St Dominic’s Family cares about others. All the contribu-

tions have been handed over to the following organisations:

Bible Quiz On Friday 27th May, two teams of St Dominic’s girls from Grades 6 and 7 partici-

pated in the annual St Jerome Bible which was hosted by Veritas College in

Springs this year. Teams from many different schools in the East Rand competed

against each other, having to answer general knowledge questions and questions

from Luke Chapters 1 to 16.

Our teams acquitted themselves very well and had a very enjoyable and challeng-

ing afternoon.

We look forward to taking part in this event again next year.
